Prudence, where are you? They're here - PICS!

Recommended Posts

Well, we are two and a half days into the intro and so far, so good. :anxious:

Violet, who is the biggest of the three, is definitely going to be top chook. She has Flo well and truly sorted out.

Marj was rather freaked out by their arrival and has spent the last two days marching around the garden. On the first night she was quite difficult to get into the Eglu to roost; I waited until it was dark then posted her in through the egg port - all three spent a quiet night.

In the mornings I have been fishing Marj out at dawn (thanks goodness it's close to the winter solstice) and letting her free range while Vi and Flo have most of the run to themselves.

When bedtime came last night, Marj leaped on top of the Eglu, clucked very loudly for 30 seconds, fell off  and then went into the run with them voluntarily. There was a bit of to-ing ad fro-ing in and out, at first Vi wouldn't let her in. Then both Vi and Flo came out to see what I was doing watching them in the dark, and Marj nipped under their tails and went in first  . All three then went to bed and again this morning there was no sign of any pecking or fighting. Marjie seems more relaxed too.

Fingers crossed they might be free-ranging together in a few more days!

Spoken too soon  .

Vi and Flo have wriggled out of the bars I had set up to keep them in the back half of the run.

I now have a free-range flock of three. They all look very happy though - no squabbles, just dust bathing and digging up the garden. Luckily I clipped their wings before I put them in the run, no chance of flights over the fence!

Prudence does seem to be smiling today.

So glad it's going so well. I had self introducing hens too who foiled my separation plans and formed their new flock before the timescale I had set. They are paying you a complement that you have done so well that they have run ahead of schedule, either that or just that chickens are so nosey they can't stand that there is a part of the run they can't get at :lol: .

Fingers crossed they keep on getting on so well, you deserve some good luck xxxx
