we used to have 2 eglus between 4 girls, high up on a platform in my walk in run. At night time we used to have the problem of 3 girls going in 1 eglu leaving a lone chook in the other so every night we had to swap around. We therefore bought the cube so they could all sleep together.

Im one of the few who doesnt like their cube.. its too big for me to move on my own, therefore I have to rely on hubby to move it on cleaning day, I find it too big and cumbersome - however it does the job we require - keeps the girls warm and they can all sleep together with plenty of room. The good thing about the cube is you can fit in more hens.

I love my eglu - wish we had kept the 2 of them as then I could manage to clean them on my own, I also love the sleek clean lines of the eglu. The cube is not such a good looker IMO.

I think you need to weigh up what you need - do you think you might expand your flock? if so a cube may suit you better.

I don't have a walk-in run, although I'm thinking of getting one in 2009, but I swopped (sold) my 2 Eglus to buy a Cube and I much prefer it. It's easier to clean and to collect eggs because of the height, it's true I can't move it easily with an extension on but that applied to the Eglu as well. I do agree with what Chelsea says about the looks - it's not as funky as the Eglu - but overall I prefer it.

Lookswise I have to say it is not as pretty, but for functionality the cube is brilliant. Much easier to clean (the two small poo trays are more manageble than the odd shaped eglu tray) and I love it all being at waist height. Plus the nest box is more flexible - you don't end up with a chicken pyramid when they all want to lay at the same time!

We have 12 Eglus - so no need for me to say more really

We bought up Eglus as people changed to the Cube :D

I really love the Eglu - we started with two on a platform (which James from Omlet saw.....and went  ....... ) inside a large run area. We now have two Eglus to a large pen, each of which opens onto a long run area.

thanks all of you. that is REALLY helpful. I think I will try & get the 2cn Eglu INTO the run, at the moment winter quarters are 4ft 6 x 9ft long with an Eglu on a platform inside. For varios reasons they don't sleep together at the moment, but all is peaceful together daytime. on day they may choose to all sleep together & then I can use one for some more  but don't think this one is really big enough for 2 Eglus, what do yo think?

I love my Eglu too. I started off with a cube and it leaked so I sent it back and got the Eglu. Mine's on a platform inside my run so it's waist height and easy to clean. If I do a big clean I take it out into the garden in sections. :D

I think it's cute and well designed, I found the cube really cumbersome. If I get more chooks (one day), I will get another Eglu. A purple one to go with the blue :D:D:D
