Leicester_H
well not really!! Yesterday at about 4pm, we discovered our new (well 15 month old) super-duper condensing combi boiler wasn't heating the water or radiators - so no heat. Had gone to use old hot water bottle on pulled muscle a few days earlier only to discover that its days had passed and it leaked everywhere. So (at bed time) we reasoned that the only warm things around were the girls - I 'almost' went and got them out of the eglu to pop into our bed to keep us warm !! - I wonder what they would have done if they'd woken up in such a strange new place ??!! Anyway, we were impressed with Worchester/Bosch - phoned yesterday (New Years Eve!!) at 4pm - engineer here (New Years day!!) at 8.15 am. (The pipe that takes the condensed water from the boiler to the outside downpipe is insulated from the cold EXCEPT after it enters the standard rainfall down pipe and the end had frozen - so not a boiler fault as such. ) Anyway we have temporary fix, so chickens are safe from the indigity of subsituting as hot water bottles. Happy New Year Everyone, H
Egluntyne
Snap....to the boiler story anyway. Hadn't thought of bringing the chickens in to warm us up.
Chickvic
You'd need clean bed sheets every night! Glad it was sorted.
Angels4
I bought an extra snuggle safe and have been using it under my blankets at night....it has allowed me to lower the setting on our heater at night.
Sunshine
My uncle fosters a little boy and they bring in a chicken at night to get him settled before he goes to bed. Not sure why a chicken helps though, its the last thing i would want on my bed before i go to sleep!
jenuk99
Not sure about chickens but I can recommend rabbits I had the odd situation of a walk round the block on boxing day and could not leave Mac on her own so I zipped her in my coat and we were very cosy all the way round. She seemed quite happy and peeped out every now and then. The things we do... Jen
The Dogmother
Snap....to the boiler story anyway. Hadn't thought of bringing the chickens in to warm us up. I can just imagine Him Indoors' face when you suggest that Egluntine... he'd have the men in white coats on call-out I always use the chooks to warm my hands when I'm doing a course - the 'classroom' in the barn at Jude's isn't the warmest place on earth
Guest
I am seriously contemplating chickens as warmers! I have had such a stupid but nasty accident with a hot water bottle that a chicken would be a much safer bed warmer, even with the mess! I momentarily touched my heel onto a hot water bottle where the cover had slipped open a crack. It was hot, but I thought nothing of it and went to sleep. During the night I became aware of pain in my heel but it wasn't until I got up that I saw the most enormous blister. Literally 4 cm square! I have a second degree burn in one area and a large first degree burn. I am sure this was caused by the Shea Butter I had put on my heels before going to bed. The oil in it must have been heated to a very high temperature. So on 13th December when it was very wet with mini floods everywhere I was limping around in flip-flops. 3 weeks later and I still can't walk without a crutch and the pain is at times intense. I can now wear crocs but couldn't contemplate anything like a shoe. The nurse estimates another two weeks at least. So I am thinking that dirty sheets every day just might be easier to cope with! I wish I'd thought of the hens 3 weeks ago.
