Recommended Posts

rather than keep jumping in Catscube post i thought i'd start my own

Went tonight to talk about having a coil and all looked good until she did the internal and went Oh!! not really what you want to hear from a doc is it. Apparently i have fibroids the size of a 5mth pregnancy :vom: and need to go see a gyno. before anything else happens for a scan etc

Don't let yourself get too worried about this.

I got all worked up a few years ago when I bled after a smear and a few problems were discovered. One treatment as an outpatient later and everything was sorted. I worried myself sick at the time.

Best wishes,

Jan

think i was more relieved that it wasn't something life threatening after the 'Oh'

i'm obviosly not happy about it but i tend to listen hear not alot then go home and read up about it.

I'm hoping that they can do something that doesn't involve a hystorectomy really as though the operation doesn't bother me too much i could end up with no job , as a childminder i wouldn't get paid and would probably have to be off work for weeks so worry that the parents would go elsewhere, its the pratical stuff that worries me more.

Barbara,

I've done a (much) longer pm with info on the op.

I know work and being paid is a worry but it's your health and you need to put yourself first this time. :shameonu:

You'll get more children back to mind when you're sorted even if the original parents don't come back. Good childminders are like gold dust !

I have a couple of books on hysterectomies I could pop in the post (or get my sister to stuff through your letter box if I see her soon).

Hi Barbara

Dont panic!!!!!! :shock::shock:

Fibroids are not always a problem, and can be managed depending on their size. It's good to be referred, so that they can measure them.

It doesn't mean that you can't have a coil, infact the Mirena coils can be used in management of them as the hormone content can help them from growing.

It's unlikely that they will suggest a hysterectomy without other less invasive treatments first. All of which do not require you taking heaps of time from work.

Obviously some choices will be determined by you age, and the amount of 'interference' with your quality of your lifestyle.

If you want any info PM me and i'll see if I can be of help!!!

BarbaraJ - I do have experience of this - lots, I had a fibroid that size discovered when I was 21.

It was successfully removed 5 years later following hormone therapy to shrink it. I later had 2 babies without complications.

Please PM me if you would like to know more - but rest assured a hysterectomy is definitely not the only option, there are plenty of others!
