MedusA
Wallpaper that is! Sorry if I lured you in under false pretences. Finally getting around to stripping the ancient "hidesallsins" woodchip on the hall/stairs/landing for re-skimming prior to painting. Any tips on how to reach the very high bit over the stairs in our Victorian house (high ceilings anyway). I have visions of me balancing precariously on a ladder and doing a great mischief to myself. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
You can hire those mini-scaffoldy ladder plinthy things if they make you feel more stable? I thought 'hidesallsins' was a brand name - like anaglypta. Edited January 13, 2009 by Guest
fowlbird
that would be my advice too... a tall man on a ladder works very well failing that, can you buy, beg, borrow or steal one of those ladder thinggies which takes on different shapes? Um. Yes. I was thinking perhaps one of those might be safer. Don't worry A chickychickychick-ENN!!, that's just the sort of thing I would do too. If only I had one of those, Mrs. W. My OH is only 5'11", so I don't think he counts!
Mrs Webmuppet
My OH is only 5ft 9 so he's no help. My Dad is well over 6 foot and so useful for those sort of jobs ( but he lives two hours away from me)
chickenanne
Go to HSS and hire a wallpaper-steamer for the day. They're great for loosening the wallpaper - we had lots of woodchip convering lots of dodgy plaster at our last house. As for the heights.... Personally I'd go for getting together a death-trap-style collection of ladders, kitchen chairs, and garden furniture, and making sure I did it when OH was out. But you'd be far better seeing if you could hire mini-scaffold stuff at the same time!
Geoid
Wallpaper steamer are very useful, so is a s"Ooops, word censored!"er. You can get wallpaper steamers cheap from Wickes.
BarbaraJ
Or you could drop the ceiling much easier to decorate then and you could hide the wallpaper you can't reach!
chelsea
erm.....um... I would leave it.....no one will notice it up there!

As you know I am good with stairs I would really recommend paying somebody to do it for you! Kev.
Lesley
- glad to see you've learned a lesson Kev! My son is 6'2" - and we're only down the road from you......would you like me to send him along? He's very handy
MedusA
Given my balance "issues" (I fall over a lot, even on the flat), OH has forbidden me to tackle the stairwell bit without him! Still, loads of landing and hall to get my stripping teeth into. I do use a steamer/stripper gadget. I can vouch for the effectiveness, even though they compromise my vision by also steaming up my specs. Kev, if you lived closer, I'd definitely be asking for your help.
