I'm stripping!

Recommended Posts

Wallpaper that is! Sorry if I lured you in under false pretences.

Finally getting around to stripping the ancient "hidesallsins" woodchip on the hall/stairs/landing for re-skimming prior to painting. Any tips on how to reach the very high bit over the stairs in our Victorian house (high ceilings anyway).

I have visions of me balancing precariously on a ladder and doing a great mischief to myself. :anxious:

that would be my advice too... a tall man on a ladder works very well :)

failing that, can you buy, beg, borrow or steal one of those ladder thinggies which takes on different shapes?

Um. Yes. I was thinking perhaps one of those might be safer.

Don't worry A chickychickychick-ENN!!, that's just the sort of thing I would do too.

If only I had one of those, Mrs. W. My OH is only 5'11", so I don't think he counts!

Go to HSS and hire a wallpaper-steamer for the day. They're great for loosening the wallpaper - we had lots of woodchip convering lots of dodgy plaster at our last house.

As for the heights.... Personally I'd go for getting together a death-trap-style collection of ladders, kitchen chairs, and garden furniture, and making sure I did it when OH was out. But you'd be far better seeing if you could hire mini-scaffold stuff at the same time!

As you know I am good with stairs  I would really recommend paying somebody to do it for you!:wink:

Given my balance "issues" (I fall over a lot, even on the flat), OH has forbidden me to tackle the stairwell bit without him!:roll::roll:

Still, loads of landing and hall to get my stripping teeth into. I do use a steamer/stripper gadget. I can vouch for the effectiveness, even though they compromise my vision by also steaming up my specs.

Kev, if you lived closer, I'd definitely be asking for your help.
