really worried, just a sniffle?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm really concerned about Maj. Yesterday I noticed when they went to bed she was sneezing and breathing with her beak open. I could hear her breathing quite deeply too. I had to jet back to uni in the evening but my mum said she would see how she is today. Today she's the same, though she laid an egg like normal and came out for some food and treats but then went back to the eglu for the day whilst Maz just pecked around the garden like normal.

I'm so worried! I know it's partly my fault. I was just hoping the nearby vet could treat her, we don't have a car and I was told that travelling could stress them out anyway? Plus my mum has flu so isn't able to take her to a vet and I am at uni.

Spoke to her tonight and think she has ordered some citradel from somewhere online. Still really worried about her though

See how she goes with the Citricidal and review in a few days.

They often get colds and it is usually nothing to worry about.

If her chest gets rattly and wheezy or she starts producing a yellow or green discharge from her nostrils then it would be advisable to take her to the vet.

The journey won't be so traumatic if she is in a cardboard box.

Very good advice, we had three hens "sneezing" put a few drops of Citricidal in their water, checked them every day to make sure it hadn't moved to their chests and un blocked their noses. and a week later they were all fine.

I know it worrying, but as long as they are only "sneezing and blocked up" rather than having a chesty weeze they should be fine, but as every one else has said, do keep an eye on them.

I've had one sneezing for nearly 8 weeks now.

Citricidal in the water and Avi pro, garlic powder now & again.

As going away in 2 weeks 4 a long weekend took her (& other 3 )to see Dr Dolittle

There was no rattling but just incase & to put my mind at rest & with the other niggling little things with the others.

He could fingd nothing but dries snot (sorry mucas) in her little nostrils , had a real good look down her throat (1st time seen vet since hole in her neck) all ok her wind pipe slightly kinked about where the hole was.

One happy chicken mommy! :D

It is human grade and very good at warding off colds and bug, but it needs to be taken in fruit juice as it's horribly bitter.

For the chooks, I give a very un-scientific sqwoosh into the water bottle.

I think Claret & Egluntine must have gone to the same school.

Whoosh ... dollops :)

Glad that I have clearly been giving mine the correct dose then :)
