Hello,

 

I was reading my chicken encyclopeadia in bed last night .........(like you do) when I read that the layers pellets are called that because they contain everything in them to enable the chicken to lay i.e thats why they're called layers pellets In my silly chicken filled mind I thought it meant the food was in layers

 

Me thinks I have been reading too much about chickens I wont tell anyone if you dont! what a plonka

I did exactly the same when I was a newbie . It was only when I saw there was growers pellets for growing chickens that I realised the layers pellets were for laying chickens. Until then I had wondered how hey got all the food into layers in the pellets .

Just a co"Ooops, word censored!" powdered version of layers pellets. Contains the same stuff only they extrude the contents through a machine to make the pellets so they are a little less messy.

 

Someone on here previously was comparing different brands. Mine usually looks like the type on the left...

Same for me sandy, as soon as I saw there was a bag called growers pellets, I realised in a flash what the layers pellets had actually meant .

My "in a flash" might still be slower than your "slow realisation" . I do know I felt such a fool , and I'm pleased so many other people have owned up to making the same mistake. It's made me feel alot less daft.

Me too - it was hearing about "growers" that made me click about "layers". Before I thought layers was the brand.

 

I also though layers mash was made up like mashed potato...
