ali-s
My local Lidl are now selling free range whole chickens. We had one for Sunday lunch and the family agreed it was very tasty. Enough for 3 on Sunday, sandwiches for myself and OH on Monday, curry for 3 on Tuesday plus a leg for Natalie to gnaw on. The carcass was thrown in the slow cooker for stock. There is a little bit of leg meat left which I am going to use in a sandwich shortly. The chicken weighed 1.80kg and cost £5.50. This will on my shopping list again when I am next in Lidl. chickencam
Good news I have been buying chicken at the supermarket recently, because I am hoping that if they see demand increase they will switch to free-range completely. Vain hope but I can but try. Morrisons sell Devonshire Red free range chickens and they are really tasty, we have had 2 meals for 5 and stock from the one we cooked on Sunday

Blackrocksrock
Good for Lidl - will be there this weekend for chicken and tinned tomatoes after seeing the price of the value ones in Mr t's!
TAJ
I still think my home grown ones are cheaper - I worked out it was £12 of fod for 4 home grown chcikens and very short on the 'food miles' scale. It would be interesting to know if they are Uk chcikens or EU imports. Tracy
Minnie the Moocher
Our local Morrisons has the Devon Red Organic Free Range at half price. £3.49.
chelsea
I think the company my hubby catches chickens for supplies both Aldi & lidl, so if that were the case and then they are very much british.
Blackrocksrock
I bought one yesterday and bought the biggest they had - there is loads of meat on it as I cooked it last night and took the meat off it to-day - it had a few stray feathers on it but other than that it is lovely and tasty. Stock cooking as I speak and smells delicious.

Charlottechicken
Thanks for posting this Ali, I have access to a Lidl, but steered clear of the meat thinking it must all be EU import, although the milk and butter is local Somerfield sell those Devonshire reds too
Ardene5
Hi Everyone, We have found that both Lidl & Aldi very good for free range food better in some respects than some of the larger super markets. Also their special items are great for Omleteers latest one is a weather station at Lidl under £10 worth buying. Best regards Ian & Valerie
