Signs of Spring

Recommended Posts

Snowdrops through :D

(we are "oop north" so they are much later than where I used to live in the London suburbs).

Wild Arums and foxgloves are beginning to show.

Blackbirds are in their courting plumage.

The tits shout their territorial song ALL day long :whistle:

"Our" pair of Bullfinches are checking out the cherry tree for blossom buds.

Birds are investigating our nestboxes.

I've paid my January tax installment ...GRRRRR ...:twisted::twisted:

What are your signs of spring?

Daffodils about an inch and a half high.

Buds on my redurrant bush which I rooted from a cutting last year. I thought that it would have been killed by the cold weather because it is just sitting in a pot on a table in the garden.

I have noticed that there is 'that spring feeling' in the air when the sun is out, it has more strength than it had a month ago.

3 out of 4 girls are laying again and 2 of them have a lovely set of glossy feathers.

It is lighter in the late afternoon, but not really in the morning yet.

A nice positive idea for a thread :D

I've got some little buds on my little lilac tree. I only put it in last year in the autumn so I can't wait for it to flower this year.

Just been up to the garden centre to get a small tray (trying desperately not to spend money) of violas for the pots at the front of the house. My mum bought me some big blousey primulas the other day to cheer me up. Will pot them all up later.

I love it when you see the first signs of spring, makes me smile.

Banana Tree

I'll believe it's Spring when the Virginia creeper on the front of the house starts budding.

I brought the indoor hyacinths I planted up from the cellar last week and they are all now in flower and smelling wonderful, it does feel quite springlike. February and March can be the harshest months of the year imo.

Lots of green shoots and buds here too. The girls are all starting to lay again and I'm getting about 4 eggs a day now.

The dawn chorus :D I hear it when I take the pup out for her walk 8)

At this time of day in the spring, the sun shines right through one of the windows in my office and blinds me - I hate having to shut it out :?

Banana Tree

Tessa

yep! :D easily grown in nth London you know... If I ever get round to separating all the baby plants from it I'll give you a shout.

Thankyou, I would love to try and grow one. I have two pomegranate bushes grown from the seeds in a fresh fruit, they are quite boring really, but when it gets really hot

 they do produce teeny tiny fruits, a banana tree would be a great companion for them.
