Walk in Run - size for timber?

Recommended Posts

Hi, we have decided to build a walk in run,

Have searched around the forum but can't find info on what size timber to use to make up the panels, looked on eBay for pre assembled but the mesh was 19g and the timber only 19mm by 38mm.

I guess that the wood may not really be strong enough nor the mesh really fox proof?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ours is made up by 2x2 wood made into panels that are butted together and screwed? so you end up with a vertical wood of 4 inches wide?

(I think that's right, where is hubby when you need him!)

The wire is stapled with an industrial stapler gun to the inside of the panels prior to screwing together.

I only have 19g wire as that was what I was advised to get at the time when I asked but 16g would be better/stronger. (the lower the number the stronger the gauge as I understand it) I have had no problems with my wire though, not personally.

I wanted a 'chunky' looking run, so my husband didn't use thin would, I believe he also felt the more sturdy he made it the better :D:wink:

Ours is 2x2 inch wood for the frame and 16g weldmesh on the outside which leaves you handy shelves to put stuff on.

Theres lots of pics in chicken run inspiration but i bet you've already been there.

Tip. I built our run around the assembled cube and now wish id installed doors that would allow me to remove the cube without having to dismantle it first.Hindsight is a great thing.
