Fixed Cube and Run help please

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I know I am FULL of questions but want to get this right.

We have decided on a cube and run and it will be fixed with a linkabord edge and filled with woodchip/amboise/hemcore.

What I really need to know is what size the edge needs to be round the cube and run in order to order my linkabord in the right lenghth.

Also, are there any photos of fixed cubes and how you have done it?

Your help is really appreciated.

Thank you

Michelle

Because the cube is high you don't need to allow for emptying the poo tray, so I would say the size of the skirt and 18" from the front to allow for opening the door.

I have put some lawn edging around the run and bricks to hold it in place to stop the bedding spreading around rather than put it on a base because I have cats and don't fancy them using it! :vom:

Thats a great help - thank you.

Do you know if I can put the border right up to the edge of the run so that the skirt actually sticks out beyond the border or whether it needs to allow for the skirt to sit inside the border (apart from at end where the door needs to come open to let them free range)?

Those photos are so useful for ideas - thank you.

This is our cube as it was when set up in August - we have quite a lot more planting and purple slate round it now, it also has a branch and a shoe rack in it and it is covered in shower curtains at the moment. We have also added a path on the side of the fence. This when it was lovely and clean and only had 3 chickens - we now have 5 :D

Hi,

We've just done our cube using the link-a-board kit that Omlet sell. We managed to get the whole thing in, with room for door etc. and still have two spare pieces of board left over. OH has a nifty electric cutter thingy too that we used to make some of the boards shorter. So we have an area that measures 3.5x1.8. All the skirtings fit in just nicely.

Sorry - no idea how to get pictures up yet. Bit new to this!
