Jules.
The advice I can give you is no to bark chippings, it can harbour harmful spores. Wood chip is fine
Saronne
Hi, Not sure about advice on chipped bark. I have been using chipped bark for months and my girlies are doing really well. Others I know also use chipped bark and have no problems with their hens. Remember, when they're out free ranging, they're digging up all kinds of spores, moulds, etc. when they scratch around in the leaves and soil. The Dogmother
Bark does get damp and mouldy - there was an article somewhere about it not long ago (sorry, my memory is poor!) which didn't advise using bark. I use Aubiose, which is dry and very clean.
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
i have aboise in there at the moment, but finding this goes damp etc with only 1/2 the run having a roof on it.
The Dogmother
I forgot to add that my run is completely covered with a clear tarp, so is watertight.
Madbird
I have my run on bark chippings, also under cover. Not noticed any mould growth and I rake it over regularly and use stalosan F power. However, when I come to do the 'big clean' and replace the old bark chippings I will replace with wood chip just to be on the safe side.
