The sky is falling...(edited to add pictures!)

Recommended Posts

It was still pretty dark when I went out to open the Eglu door this morning. With about a foot of snow on the ground the Eglu run was an enclosed tunnel so I was not surprised when no chickens appeared. I looked in the egg port to check the girls were okay but decided that the snow may offer insulation so left them to it.

A couple of hours later the run still looked unusually dark.

Then I realised that the roof had sagged alarmingly under the weight of the snow. The girls were coming out of the Eglu for food but the roof of the run was rather close to their heads

Armed with a spade I went out and removed a 10 inch covering from the run.

It popped back into shape and everything looks much brighter in there now. I wonder if Omlet ever tested their wire mesh for loadbearing

As an aside, I took photo's of all this but take my hat off to all you Omleteers who have mastered the technology required to upload pictures  With my children off school (closed due to snow) I cannot spend any more time trying to get the darn things to show :wall: Off to build a snowman now...

And returned (having built snowmummy, snowdaddy, 3 snow children and 3 snow chickens!) to find useful info on how to post pictures. Now, I wonder will this work... here goes!

Hi Busybird, if you take a look at this link -

you can see how to load pics. I use Photobucket to store mine, took me a while to sort it out but it's not too difficult once you know how!

I'm in Swindon, don't know how far that is from Derry Hill - been snowing here all morning! I have an Elgu outside with a thick covering of snow, no run on it yet though, it's for my new chicks! :D
