Thought this might of interest to women aged 18-45...

Recommended Posts

...as it seems like we are a pretty friendly bunch on here! I just wanted to wave the flag for a fun, friendship and fundraising non-profit organisation that I belong to and you may not have heard of: Ladies Circle. We're the sister organisation to Round Table which you may have heard of - same thing but for women aged 18-45, not men.

There are 100s of clubs around the country (anyone around Radlett, Herts please PM me!) and I've been a member myself for about 6 years now - it's such a great way of meeting new friends locally, helping raise money for whatever charities you want to support etc. Circle has been going for over 70 years in the UK and there are clubs in many other countries too: you can even get involved at National and/or International level if you fancy it.

In my club, we do everything from Poker Nights to Sing-a-long-a-Mama Mia! We're pretty typical: most of us work, most of us have kids and we meet about every 2 weeks in the evening and a few weekend get-togethers through the year. Everyone is very friendly and up for having a laugh, trying new things and trying to give a bit back.

If you'd like to find out if there is a club near you, just go to www.ladies-circle.org.uk or drop them an email via the site. Flag waving over!

That makes 4 of us then  - so what are we doing in this thread?

It's very ageist isn't it? - I thought clubs like Rotary were erm........for older people anyway and would have assumed the same about its sister group? :?

You're right: Rotary is just over 18 and we're not affiliated to them. Round Table and Ladies Circle are both 18-45. When we get kicked out (ceremoniously of course), you can go on to either 41 Club (used to be 18-40, hence their name) or Tangent respectively. We do not get pushed out onto an ice-floe once we hit 45 - just keeps the all the clubs vibrant as new members are always joining, bringing new ideas etc and we're all at similar 'life stages' (or some such PC-like phrase).

I do think it's a good idea, but putting an age limit on in order to ensure that people are at the same life stages is maybe getting a bit outdated now isn't it? After all, although most of the Mothers of my son's friends are half my age, there are a significant number of us in their 40s that could hardly be classed as 'young Mums'! And because of that we also don't fit in with other women in their 40s whose children may now be leaving home for university so they have a bit more spare time on their hands.

Sorry, I didn't mean to get on my soapbox. I really like the idea - but I don't like that I'm too old :wink:

I don't think I'm too old either Snowy, and I am postively ancient compared to most of you.

If I were to join something like this, which is unlikely to be honest, I would prefer the age restrictions to be 18 to 120 :D

I with you there Snowy!!! I am too old as well apparently :(

However not sure about the kids off to uni more time on their hands...My OS says that the girls were a substitute for him. HUH At least they take themselves to bed at night!!

I get really mad with the age limit thing. Its about who you are and what you are interested in whatever your age.
