I went to sainsburys yesterday and was in the queue behind a lady who said she was shopping for a school class....

 

she was buying en-mass...

 

free range eggs...

Milk...

 

and ... pancake mix??????? The instructions were just add eggs and milk????

 

surely that's just flour????

 

 

I mentioned it to the checkout lady, and she said she thought it was funny too... they were 97pence each too.... each packet looked like it only had about 200g in it!!!

 

The good news I suppose was they were free range eggs, but it made me smile!!!

The only way I can make Toad in the Hole is with a batter mix. If I use plain flour I end up with sausage sponge that even the birds won't eat!!!!!

 

I do make pancakes conventionally though!!

How funny - it reminds me of one I saw in Waitrose a couple of years ago before pancake day - that was a complete mix - nothing to add. The downside? it was frozen! it would take hours to defrost when they only take 30 seconds from scratch!

Rosie doesn't much like ordinary pancakes, but she often asks for drop scones (scotch pancakes); i find those more therapeutic to make too.

I saw a woman in Morrisons this week who had a bag of sliced carrots in her basket . I didn't even know you could buy sliced carrots .

I went to see ben elton a few years ago, he was making fun of M&S food selling peeled oranges... he said we would soon be able to buy pre-digested food... mmm isnt that a slimfast shake????

I bought these before actually, but in my defence I was 40 weeks pregnant and it was for Christmas day dinner and I was detemined I was preparing / eating that myself before the baby came, but buying some veg prepared was my cheat! ... hubby is non existent in the kitchen except when the meats cooked and he carves and eats half of it at the same time

 

Having said that he will do a stir fry...

We have a bit of a tradition in our house. Baden likes crepes with lemon and sugar for Shrove Tuesday breakfast and American pancakes with maple syrup for his evening dessert.
