As I can't get them to stay still longer enough to measure them for bridemaid dresses I am thinking of a way to make my girls a part of our big day!

 

So far, I thought that maybe they could make a contribution to my wedding cake?

 

I don't think their cullinary skills are on par with Delia Smith, but obviously they could proide the eggs!

 

Now a family friend has offered to make our cake as their wedding present to us.

 

There is one snag they live in Cornwall, we live in Northampton!!

 

As I am not planning a holiday that way, any ideas if it is possible to transport eggs safely?!

 

I know you can buy hatching eggs on ebay, how can they make sure they don't crack in the post? Do they use a special courier, sounds expensive.

 

Any ideas folks?

How about pictures of their little faces on the edges of the place settings?

Recordings of them clucking playing subtly underneath the music as you walk down the isle? (Is it a traditional wedding?)

Have a wedding meal of Curried eggs to start, followed by an omlet, followed by egg custard?

How about a decoration made from their feathers?

Wear something made out of their feathers?

I'm sure I can think of more than that.

I'm laughing at the idea of walking down the aisle wearing an Indian headress!!

 

I love egg custard but the wedding breakfast is for 80 people then 110 for the evening, not sure the girls can manage that many!

 

We're getting married in a local stately Georgian home, ceremony and reception to be held there.

 

 

Hmm, as it will be at Chrsitmas time and there will be a large Christmas tree in everyroom, I've just had a thought...we could blow lots of eggs (would need to practise) spray gold and silver and attach fine ribbon and hang on the trees! Faberge eat your heart out!

Hi congratulations, hope all the planningis going well!

 

When we got married last year we decided, much to my disappointment, that it wasn't a sensible idea to let our young springer spaniel pup attend the wedding i.e. far too high a risk of muddy paws attacking my dress and the guests!

 

To make up for it we ordered a bride and groom 'cake topper' from a lady on ebay and she included a mini model of our dog in the model too. Basically its a mini replica of you and the groom - you just describe or send photos of what you will be wearing, hair colour etc etc.

 

What about ordering a cake topper and asking the creator to add some chicken bridesmaids sitting round you!

You could post the eggs to your cake maker

 

Although I like the idea of the blown eggs.......u could add to table centre pieces too.

 

Or a chook feather inside each napkin ring?........ would need to be poo free.....mmm perhaps not.

 

My thankyou/notepaper/return labels now have a pic of my three on, why not add them to the invitations?

We had names for our tables ( diffrent wine grapes). You could name your tables after diffrent chicken breeds or even give the tables your girls names and display a pic of each girl on the corrosponding table. Love your egg idea to.

i love the idea of the blown eggs sprayed in silver / gold!

even bunch together little feathers either natural or sprayed, tied with matching ribbon or coloured wire.

even use sprayed eggs/feathers in table centers to compliment your flowers, as its xmas you could use cones, cinamon sticks, dried orange slices, berries, holly, as well , this could make a lovely natural, xmassy look!

just thought not only could you spray eggs, but put glitter on them as well... this is the florist coming out in me now! sorry getting carried away, but i love a bit of glitter at christmas?

in my mind you have a whole xmassy egg/feather theme going on... good luck ...let me know ! ebjoy!

Thanks Palmer, I actually found someone who was selling hatching eggs on ebay, cheekily asked her (Kerry) where she got them from, she told me of a chap called Ben, when I checked his ebay shop, he was selling them in batches of 50 trays for £40 odd, when I emailed him to ask if he would sell me one or two to allow me to post 24 eggs to someone in Cornwall who was baking my wedding cake, he wrote back asking for my address and has soffered to send me one free of charge as a 'Wedding present' to me! Aren't people lovely!

 

I totally agree about glitter at christmas time. My Mum used to teach flower arranging so the tables at the moment are planned to have a large church candle in the middle surround by a florist ring with fir, holly, ivy, cones, cinnamon tied with ribbon, hellibores and gold ribbon very christmassy.

I had feathers as a part of my wedding. I don't know how much yours shed.

I had peacock and pheasant feathers in my bouquet, peacock feathers or my table centrepieces but the bit you could do as they are smaller is the buttonholes.

everyone elses were dark green but dhs were white

 

I've also just remembered we had feathers painted around the cake,and a glass peacock (subsitute chicken) on top

Hello!

 

First of all - Congratulations!

 

We got married last November and I used our chicken's eggs to make our wedding cake which was a bit hairy towards the end as their laying became a bit erratic as i was trying to collect 17 eggs!!!.

 

We also had marzipan chickens, chocolate eggs and fried egg sweets in little bags as favours! Let me know if you want any links to suppliers etc.

Why not have place settings at the table with pictures of your girls on them? My mum had ones made for my wedding of me and my husband on holiday so there are online stationers that do them.

 

Maybe get a mention in one of the thank you speeches - thank you to the girls for the eggs in the wedding cake.

 

All this is making me wish I'd had by girls when I got married.

 

Wouldn't have been able to leave them for the 3 week honeymoon though!!!!

 

BTW - Pollenbird, are you Hampton Middlesex? If you are, finally I have found someone on the forum who lives near me (I'm Hampton Hill) - I was thinking I was the only person in the area who had chickens (paranoid that I am public enemy no. 1 when they start squawking more like!)

Thanks girls for your ideas. I can imagine the flowers in the button holes, my don't shed much though...yet! Once they hit a year old, I reckon they will which will be about in July! We would be having around 8 or 9 round tables and only 5 girls.

 

I already thought of a thank you in the speeches along the lines of 'We'd like to say a special thankyou to Shelagh who made our fabulous wedding cake, oh and also Alberta, Harriet, Ethel, Margot and Carmen for providing the eggs!'

We got married last October and i also wanted to include the girls in our day. We arranged for somebody to make our cake and we made a little card to stand on the cake table with their pictures and explaining that they had donated the eggs, we also highlighted the fact that the girls were resuced through the BHWT to try and make people aware of this.
