BarbaraJ
I have read the other posts about introductions and have put my new girls in the old part of the run on left last saturday i have some trellis seperating them and the old girls are totally uninterested even when they first arrived and the new girls don't seem bothered by the old ones either. I have chucked corn down by the trellis and even when the girls meet at the trellis they don't seem bothered. hubby really doesn't want them freeranging in the garden anymore thats why he built the large run (but i will let them out at weekends sometimes. Seeing as it seems to be going well could i remove the trellis at the weekend supervised and maybe leave the wooden coop open if they want to use that or if it goes well is it better to shut it and put them in together? Olly
Give it a try - if World War III breaks out, then you can always separate them again. I'd just see what happens at night, you may find they all snuggle up together anyway - if there is any trouble, it's less likely to be at night when they're all a bit dopey. If you remove the wooden coop, chances are they will all troop into the Cube together. What a great run, I'm very
BarbaraJ
Well i put them together at about 12 and first the new girls wouldn't come out of their side. then the oldies were chasing the new girls around their part so i shooed them all into the large area and shut off the old part. a bit of pecking feathers and chasing so after a bit to give the new girls a break i opened the door so they could all free range. The old girls came out bt the new ones stayed in. I didnt want to shoo them out and stress them more so left them alone. All was quiet and the old girls took themselves to bed but the new ones roosted on a branch , i had to put them in the cube and there was a bit of a scuffle and noise but they quietened down after couple of minutes. I sent dd ot to check an hour later as i was out and all was fine, so i'm hoping they survive the night ok I'll try and get out early tomorrow and hope they settle well. I thought i'd keep the old part shut for a couple of days and then open it up to all of them so it doesn't belong to anyone. How does that sound , does it look like its going ok? Cooks
I had no experience before my current intro's myself Barbara but I am doing the intro's recommended to me by Egluntine (she's a star!) and so far I am doing fine, except a few early rises this week. We are currently at the 'letting them sleep together then removing them to seperate daytime accomodation' stage, it's going great, I hope your intro's go smoothly , mine have had me biting my nails. Mrs Webmuppet
We are at the separate free range bit but there doesn't seem to be any problems and both sets of chooks can see each other from their houses. LMW is hoping to let them all out together after school. She will be standing by with the water pistol just in case there's any trouble. The newbies have settled in really well, and love the five star treatment chez Webmuppet!
