helsbels
Hi all - thanks for all your kind welcomes a few weeks ago when I joined the forum. I have been loving having the chooks and they are all outside sunbathing at the moment - they are so comical stretching out various bits to catch the sun I am getting two eggs a day now from my rangers but am beginning to think I may never get any eggs at all from some of my girls are they boys I ask myself ?? gut instinct tells me they are - and the crazy curly tail feathers on one is a sure giveaway isnt it? take a look and let me know your thoughts if you wouldnt mind. The maran is deffo a boy - we knew so we called him Bruce but the three light sussex called milly, molly and mo may have to be change to billy, bobby and mo and if they are - any one after a couple of lovely light sussex gents
ClaireG
They do look quite boyish i'm afraid to say. Their hackle feathers look quite pointy and as you say, their tail feathers are more boy than girl.
Egluntyne
'Fraid so...look at those pointy hackle feathers, the way the saddle feathers sweep over and the tails. Handsome devils.

Electricbarbarella
I say boys, looking at my sussex and she doesnt have that magnificent tails or pointy hackle feathers.
Kittycat
I'm by no means an expert, but aren't the boys supposed to have a spur on the back of their leg - or does that come later - how old are they?
Egluntyne
It does come later....and hens can develop spurs. My Artemis Fowl has a very impressive pair.
Janty
My he/she also has a nasty set of spurs and she laid eggs until about seven months ago.

pencilbeckett
Hi There After my recent similar experience i would put my money on them being boys. I think the pointy neck feathers are a sign (no expert though). They are lovely chaps though

helsbels
pencilbeckett - you say you had a recent experience - did you manage to rehome or was it a different solution
Egluntyne
Light Sussex cockerels make good table birds. You could also offer them for sale in the breeds section of the Omlet website. Follow the links above. Although the forum doesn't actively assist in the rehoming of cockerels, I notice that there are several listed for sale in the section mentioned. Christian
I would say boys too I'm afraid Very handsome though Although the forum doesn't actively assist in the rehoming of cockerels, I notice that there are several listed for sale in the section mentioned. That's an understatement Egluntine Good luck rehoming them
