ChrisP
I'm tired of trying to sleep from about 10:30 til 1, finally getting some sleep, waking up through the night, and then being late for college the next day cos I oversleep I don't want prescribed medication if I can help it, and am seriously considering buying a packet of Nytol and seeing how it goes. Anyone had any experience of these? Do they work? Do you feel rough the next morning? Can you still drive the next morning? Any other side affects? Thanks
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Try Sleepytime tea by Celestial Seasonings. Works quite well providing you make it as per the packet. Available from large supermarkets and health food shops.
bluekarin
I used them for a while, I think I had the herbal ones. They did seem to help me relax and go off to sleep. However, I did find in the mornings I still felt groggy, but it did help me get my sleep pattern on track, so for short term use I would say they are a good idea. Theres nothing worse than lying in bed trying to go to sleep and being unable to
alih
I used them about 12 years ago and they worked well to get me back into my usual sleep pattern so I would say give it a go - I didn't feel sleep at all the next day.
Lydia
I use Nytol from time to time. I find it difficult to switch off sometimes and they do help me. I don't use them all the time just when I have something really big on my mind. When I use them I still wake up during the night, however, I do feel I sleep more deeply and for longer than when I don't. I feel no groggier than usual in the mornings, although I am not a morning person and tend to be grumpy until 4 coffees later anyway so it would be quite difficult to tell! I still drive the next morning and have not suffered any ill effects so far. I was watching that BBC programme "Grow your own Drugs" this week which featured a homemade pillow filled with hops and other herby things (which effectively is what Nytol is). I intend to try that as an alternative. More info here.
Lesley
I get Carl to take Kalms night time tablets - they seem to work really well.
kannie
I've used Kalms, but recently got some Nytol herbals as they had additional different herbs, and you only had to take 2 instead of 4 (which made them cheaper). Found them good, and more effective than Kalms, but went to get more today and found that they've now put them in a blister pack, changed the formulation (now only 3 herbs), changed the manufacturer, licence holder and owning company, and - of course - put the price up! If you find some of the old ones in a little plastic bottle, I'd recommend getting them now!
sparkysmum
Hi nothing worse than sleeplessness. If need be I use a tincture of valerian & hops by Bioforce. Works well although it is revolting Ax
