Paola
We had our lessons at home and one day I was vaguely aware it sounded like my boys were fighting upstairs but I was doing a good job of filtering it out. It got louder and louder and eventually the teacher asked if I ought to do something so I got up and closed the door. The look on his face suggested that wasn't quite what he was thinking I should do - oops bad mother Fantastic I would have prob done the same
AJuff
Playing is wonderfully relaxing because you have to shut everything else out and look and listen to what you are doing. Guest
I love Baby Grands. I had one once, which i bought from an antique shop really cheap as the people who owned it were getting divorced and wanted a quick sale. I sold it a few years later (much to my regret) but space was needed, only to find that it was a rare 1920's American one, that originated in New York!! I have an upright now, but the hospital i work at is gradually closing down and i know there is a beautiful one in the Chapel, so if it's still there when the hospital finally closes, perhaps i will make an offer. AJuff
Well finally our room is on the verge of being completed. We put the wooden floor down this week which was very exciting. The children each made their own special floorboard by decorating the back of one and decorating it with their names, drawings etc. i wonder who'll find them when the floor comes up in years to come!!! On Tuesday the builders come back to finish off the last bits and pieces. Then there is just the painting to do, so by next weekend it will be FINISHED!!!!!!! So this Saturday I am going to the piano shop in Gosforth to try out their baby grands. I'll be able to play one or two little tunes but I'll bring DD who can play beautifully and a friend who plays expertly. Will keep you posted . . . . very excited.. jenuk99
I've never had a music lesson, but learned to play a trumpet as a kid because my dad was a mad jazz fan, I even played lead trumpet in the school orchestra until the music master reaslised that I was busking, and kicked me out I could follow the music in that I knew when to turn the pages over but this one piece had a mis print and whilst the whole orchestra played the bum note I played what should have been the right one, apparently our school only had REAL musicians in their orchestra. If you could do that then you will pick up the Piano easily, you obviously have a good ear and that will help a lot. Go for it and let us know how you get on. Can't beat wooden floors. I got fed up of the dogs ruining carpets so ripped them all up and got solid oak. Fabulous and so hard wearing. And with your baby grand will set it of perfectly. Have fun x
Guest
I had always wanted a piano accordion and i felt Christmas had come early when last year my elderly neighbour presented me with one. It was his own but too arthritic to play it now. It took me ages to work out the buttons (the keys were no problem because they are like a piano, obviously). Keep your eyes open on X-factor, i've sent in my demo tape .... here it is . We'll take the nation by storm! I can feel it in my water. Don't know who the woman was?.... i just dragged her off the street for the recording :)

Guest
The dress really doesn't suit you Andy! I know!.... I looked a swine in it!..... However, if it does the job in knocking Simon Cowell bandy at the auditions, you'll be laughing the other side of your face Miss Claret when i win those finals. You mark my words! x
Guest
Mind you.... i did confide in what i thought was a friend of mine about my forthcoming stardom on X-factor..... and he said 'It's been done before.'...... Odious old kill-joy. He's off the Christmas card list.... and to think i took pity on him and had considered him to come along and accompany on the spoons. Jealousy! That's all i can put it down to. Guest
Right, that is enough of the insaness When your room is complete, wooden floors, beautiful baby grand piano, i would appreciate a pic. They are lovely instruments. I thought after i had posted, that mine was in fact a 'Boudoir grand' not a baby grand. I would love a baby grand though. Enjoy x
AJuff
What's the difference between boudoir and baby?

Guest
I've been thinking about it Ajuff. If you haven't bought one yet, consider a Boudoir grand. As said, they are literally only slightly bigger, but you will notice the difference in tone. I've only played two baby grands, and therefore can't speak for all BG's, but they tend to sound 'tinny' to me. The Boudoir seems to take this tinniness away? My friend also has a Boudoir Grand and it has a good tone too, without the said Tinniness. As said, it's only my opinion. When you buy your piano test them both out (assuming both are available at your piano dealer) and see what you think, and ask the opinion of the dealer, don't just take mine. But at the end of the day, your ear is unique to you, and it's the sound that you personally want. You've got me all excited now Keep us updated. Here's the first piece i ever learnt. It's said to be played on a Baby Grand? It's not, it's a Boudoir. See if you think the same as me ie it doesn't sounds Tinny: Andy x
AJuff
I am so excited now roll on 1.30 today. Off piano hunting. I've spent the morning measuring up the baby and boudoir sizes, both will fit in. I hope to be able to test out both today and I'll be able to compare. Saying that the shop has a baby Steinway (out of my budget) but I won't be comparing any with that one!!!!! My partner's uncle has a Steinway (upright) and my classical voice coach had a Steinway parlour grand. You keep within your budget and keep your eyes off that. It's just a name. Find a little beauty which will look fab in your house and sound good. x
AJuff
I'm back from piano hunting!!!!!! Such an interesting day. So many different makes, uprights, grands, styles, finishes and prices!!! DD and my friend James played them all for me!! (I didn't think they'd appreciate my playing just yet!! ) I left the first shop with - I like that black polished baby grand (Weber) but I don't like the heavy feel of the keys, but I really like the upright Kawai. I wish I could have both! Then I found a black polished baby grand Kawai which played beautifully and looked beautiful too!! DD and James liked it too so I'm having one of them!!! Will post a picture in situ when everything is in place.
Guest
Excuse me, i cannot recall uprights being mentioned? You measured for a baby or boudoir! Those uprights reak havoc on wooden floors. Trust me. I was gutted after laying mine and moving the piano back into the living room. Groove marks! Go to lakeland and get some castor cups. You'll only need three. That's all a baby or boudoir has, ie legs x *upright indeed *
AJuff
No No No I have not made myself very clear. I meant i have the sound of and feel of the Kawai but the looks of the Weber baby grand. Look at the GM10 baby grand. And before you ask I did look at the GM20 but I didn't think it was worth the extra £3K.
