redfrock
My husband received an email from 'me' today - saying about one of those money scams and suggesting he click on various links / emails etc. When we went into my hotmail account we found that various emails had been sent from it - because some of them had bounced back from addresses that are no longer functioning. Also they had gone into my options and set up the equivalent of an 'out of office reply' so that everybody who emailed automatically got a message back - saying the same rubbish. I must admit I am quite freaked out as I don't open emails from unknown sources, click on suspect links etc etc etc so I'm not sure how it has happended. Thankfully I don't use this account for anything too secure (which is why I have it). I've tried to close the account down but it says I can't because I have a subscription set up on it (not something I have done). Microsoft haven't been incredibly helpful so I am going to have to hassle them to close it on my behalf
Phonix
Oh thats awful! I don't get why people do stupid things like that Hope you get it sorted quickly! xXx
Geoid
When you do close it, get a Gmail account instead. Much better user interface, security, storage, scripting etc etc. Unless you already have another account. They probably had a load of email addresses, put a bit of code into the password bit and see if their code cracked your password.

The Dogmother
It's not just Hotmail though, a couple of friends have had exactly the same, but with other providers.
redfrock
Gah! Trying to delete a Windows Live ID (hotmail) is hell! They have to make it so damn confusing! sorry Actually I had a good look at the account today - I rarely use it. set it up initially for when I was in the process of moving and also for 'junk'. Turns out it has been having emails sent from it since 4th January . What I really don;t like is that it has my address and date of birth details in the account fields
