Chooks Aloud
It's a job we've been putting off for a long time - sorting out the loft, but over the last 2 weeks we've done it. Twenty-seven years worth of stuff to sort through. I've sent 35 large bags to the charity shops, done numerous trips to the dump and freecycled the rest. Our loft looks really tidy now - just got to make sure we keep it that way. Karen

A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I did that a year ago. Sent a transit to the tip and about 30 bags to charity. It's insane how much you keep thinking 'that's handy!' or 'that's a nostalgia trip!' I SAY never again...
Guest
I can't believe your loft is UNtidy, Poet. I have seen the photos of your garden.....

Sunshine
We are sorting some of ours out tomorrow. We are not sure if we have got lots of toilet rolls and hankies stashed up there(we bulk buy at Costco) so need to see what we have before we make a Costco trip and end up with double! BeckyBoo
Wow, good on you. Mine needs it, specially as there's still stuff up there that ex-OH should really take but you can barely get in there it's so stuffed to the rafters. I think the thought of doing it is nearly as daunting as actually doing it BeckyBoo
Olly
Well done, you won't regret it! I left clearing the loft till the day before I moved from my last house, as there was nowhere to store the boxes except the bathroom ... luckily I had a friend to help, because after an hour (when she was STILL passing stuff down to me) I started crying! And I'd only been able to use the loft for a couple of years, it was inaccessible when I moved in. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I moved to a house with a garage ... same stuff, but at least I don't have to climb a ladder to get to it! Ain't Nobody Here
I did that about 10 years ago with a great sense of achievement . It now needs doing again . Where did all that extra stuff come from ?
Egluntyne
Amazing what you accumulate isn't it. I have a rule now.....I write a date on a box if it gets stowed, and if it hasn't been opened in a couple of years,.....it goes. Need to hire a skip to deal with the contents of the garage. Cate in NZ
I sorted mine out a year ago, had to be ruthless because we were moving & I had to get rid of a lot of stuff, not wanting to pay a rather large fortune to cart years of accumulated junk to the other side of the world. It was deeply satisfying at the time.....but several times since I've actually missed some of the stuff I binned . And, of course, I'm busily collecting more junk....I can't believe I do it
Guest
I decided to have my insulation topped up before christmas - so had to clear the loft ready for the company who did it. It was really very cathartic.....I had a huge clearout, the charity shops did well and I sold some stuff on ebay! Now I have just a few bits up there - suitcases, crimbo stuff etc..... Trouble is - I went on a clearout rampage and stilll haven't stopped! Louise
Olly
Ah, but it makes you feel sooo good! When all your cupboards have been sorted, every drawer tidied, and all those 'gloryholes' like the under-the-stairs cupboard, the kitchen drawer and the garage/shed/porch have been cleared out, you will feel virtuous and smug!! You'll immediately discover that the unidentified object you threw in the bin last week was actually a vital part of something, of course!
