bald bottom

Recommended Posts

three stange things happening - not sure if they are all connected, so any advice would be great!

Mrs Beans, not quite a year old, noticed a couple of days ago that she had lost some tail feathers. Today, her bum below her vent is completely bald.

When I picked her up to look for any signs of lice etc, she appeared to have pushed some of her inside out almost like a prolapse, but when I put her down, everyhing popped back in. She has never done this before - that I've noticed, and I've picked her up several times since then, and nothing. Her bum doesn't look sore or pecked.

A couple of days ago we did have a monsterously large egg laid - not sure if it ws her or not.

Could these things all be connected?

Can find no signs of parastites, (though will dust them al tonight to be safe!) and she seems to be acting normally - bright eyes and eating well, enjoying a dust bath with the rest of the ladies earlier today, and she's still laying. Our neighbour did think she looked a little thinner than the rest - but she's never been a fat chick.

Any advice??????

I've had Mrs Beans from the start - she's the mother hen and I would hate for anything to happen to her :(

Bit of a worry for you. Mine had a prolapse which went back quickly like yours just keep an eye on her because if it comes out again the others may peck it.

The bald bit behind the vent may be lice but you say you can't find any so can't be that. She may have pecked them out herself if she was sore from prolapse but I would have expected there to be blood then. I guess it could be the others pecking her so I guess you can just keep an eye on her and see if they regrow.

Glad she's acting normally, why not worm her if she seems a bit light :?

Hope it all settles. Perhaps someone experienced will be along. :D
