dancing cloud
Three more ex-batts lucky enough to be rescued by BHWT coming to join my six little ex-batt monsters next Saturday! I put my name down for three more in spring last November, as I wasn't sure how many of the originals would make it through the winter and didn't want to run the risk of one lonely chook due to the waiting list. As it turned out, all of my original half-dozen are still very much alive and demanding, but I'm on the list and three more are on their way The segregation eglu's been scrubbed, the run put on, the clear tarp put over it, the aubiose in it, rubber eggs on standby. Little monsters have been informed and asked not to teach their little sisters any bad habits (like shouting for breakfast before 6.00am ) and not to laugh at their pale faces and thin featherbare bodies (just remember what they looked like themselves last May!). Cats have been informed and done the equivalent of And I'm all excited and hoping the intros go well Anyone else adopting from Great Totham next Saturday? stoice
Good luck with your new little monsters! My girls were rescued last April (So thats almost a whole year living it up in my garden!) and I collected them from Great Totham too. (Typically on THE hottest day ever for April) The poor darlings were cooling off in the shade in temp pens waiting for us to collect them. The rescuer (Forget her name now) explained she had driven all the way back from Norfolk to collect all her girls and she had the most poorly ones on her lap in the van eating egg and cress sandwiches! Very well looked after. How eggciting for you. They really are such great characters.

dancing cloud
Only three more sleeps to go! My regular egg-buyers (aka my staff) are voting on names as we post. They have 7 categories to choose between, with 4 names in each (and I'm reserving the right to pick something completely different, since they're going to be my little girls!) I know I'm only adopting 3, but then last time I was only adopting 4 and they became 6 , so I thought I'd be prepared just in case. Excited? I'm so excited! dancing cloud
And the votes for names are in and the Heavenly Hens category won by a short beak over the Spring Chickens, so names will be chosen from Sun, Moon, Sky and Star - all things they won't have seen in a battery . Nerves and doubts are now setting in, along with anticipation, and this time tomorrow I'll just about be going to collect them. I really do feel like a chlld waiting for Christmas - even more so than with my first ones because now I know exactly what I'm going to get and what they can become . Anyone else adopting ex-batts from Essex/anywhere this weekend? Only one more sleep to go !

dancing cloud
We're home! The little monsters have been badly behaved all day because they knew something was going on when I put food in the the eglu run and closed the door. They certainly shouted and bawled constantly between the newbies getting home and bedtime . Soothing noises were not having any effect, so the water pistol has been filled in case I get a repeat performance tomorrow. The heavenlies are seriously oven-ready (I was asked at the collection whether I would take ones with very few feathers, so I assume they weren't all as bare). They have some wing feathers that make them look reasonable from the top, but absolutely nothing underneath. Their bums are so bald, they're positively shiny and they are very thin and pale, with large floppy combs. One of them did not come out of the eglu at all, though she did poke her beak out at one point before deciding it was all too much. The other two had a little walk in the run and a tiny bit of food, but I didn't see either of them drink at all. They did put themselves to bed when it got dark though, bless them Hopefully they'll all be up for a bit of brekkie in the morning
