Griffin
and didn't stop the car I was just driving home from the supermarket (10 miles away, oh the joys of country living!) when I passed a small garden centre that had a sign by the road saying 'Chickens for sale'. I almost did an emergency stop followed by a quick u-turn Being the nosey parker I am, I'm wondering what breeds they sell. I intend to pop in next time I'm passing but I will not, DEFINITELY NOT, bring any home with me I'm just curious, that's all. I'll be a very good girl

mostin
I only avoided temptation when I drove past one of those signs because I knew my ex-batts were on the way. You won't be so lucky .
Griffin
Yeah but no but yeah but no but I've got 11 baby chicks in my garage, the oldest are 7 weeks old so they're not moving over to the big girls side of the garden for a long time yet and I'm planning to hatch more out in May. My other spare coop is empty until some of the chicks move into it so theorhetically I could squeeze a new chook or two into it for a few weeks I don't need any more chickens and my OH would kill me........ Griffin
I have to take some cardboard to the recycling centre today. It's just up the road from the garden centre! I feel like there is a great big magnet drawing me in

Griffin
Wow! A seed of thought has definitely been planted They had about 60 chickens there, mostly their breeding stock, Buff Orps, Pekin Bantams, Cream Legbars, Silkies, Cuckoo Marans and some Gingernut Ranger types. There were Marans and white Silkies for sale and I have to admit to being sorely tempted by the Silkies! I'd never met one in the flesh before, had only seen pictures and thought they were quite ugly looking but they were stunning! I loved the contrast of the white feathers, black beaks and bright blue ears. My sensible head says they might be a bit too small to live with my hybrid ladies
The Dogmother
You're asking the wrong person Griffin, I'm not a fan of silkies.
Griffin
Neither was I until this morning I couldn't get over how pretty the white ones were, nowhere near as ugly as I'd imagined them to be
tidygirlsuk
It is hard to resist isn't it. my local garden center has got pekin bantams, 2 buff pullets, 1 white pullet and an adorable black cockrel. the thing that stops me is the cost of bigger chicken house and run. i've got 3 chooks at the minute and 170ft length garden, mmm i wonder how many chickens would be sensible. Griffin
I've decided to satisfy my newly found urge for White Silkies by hatching some out in my next hatch in May It might take absolutely forever to sex them but I can't really justify spending £40 on two ladies I'll probably hatch all boys now
