Faverolle, Wynadotte & Maran a mistake in an Eglu?

Recommended Posts

I've 'ordered' some birds and now I've remembered that big breeds aren't good in Eglus. I'm planning on 3 birds in each eglu, and obviously I can't force them to share with the smaller birds so would 3 of the larger ladies be okay together?

I think this is going to be a mistake, they are all heavy breeds. Have to think about this. It means cancelling my order and starting the search for hens again...

I had no idea that they were a Large breed when I was speaking to the breeder. He suggested I look at them and I just saw that they were friendly and a bit fluffy and laid creamy coloured eggs. I've booked two as they are known to be low on the pecking order scale so I figured one would need a friend of the same temperment.

Will definitely keep you all updated. I'll be getting them at 12 weeks old in May.

I think they will be ok. I had 5 hens in one eglu (2 available - their choice to squash into one), including a large light sussex and a maran, with a silver sussex and a couple of Pepperpots! They like snuggling together :lol:

 Hopefully mine will be just as ludicrous! And they will have 2 eglus to choose from, hopefully they'll balance themselves out between the two (the 2 other birds I'm getting should be part bantam or part regular hybrid so smallish).
