A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I don't like doing cross-stitch. It make my eyes go funny, I get bored with it, and I don't really like a lot of the designs (I have buried my other half's wizard cross-stitch in the loft. It was a Christmas present from someone he loves so he can't give it away. He hates it too, but just in case, it's now buried !) But I have done one. I quite like Victorian alphabet samplers, and after my favourite programme Battlestar Galactica (BSG) finished this week, I thought I'd have a go at designing a Battlestar Galactica cross-stitch in parodic homage. It's supposed to look like an alphabet sampler, but there are some Battlestar Galactica in-joke words hidden in it; the 'targets' are patterns which have a big significance in the series; the grey crosses are supposed to resemble spaceships (cylon basestars); the top and bottom lines have the infinity symbols and stars to represent space, and the green and red thing is the symbol for a Viper (little fighting spaceship) as it appears on DRADIS (the main spaceship's radar thingy system). The random crosses at the top and bottom correspond to some special musical notes which only make sense if you're a hardcore BSG fan. The letters are done in the blues and greys of the uniforms and spaceship interiors. How sad am I?! I hate it. But I'm rather pleased with it. Still not sure why I did it! Snowy
What a clever idea! A modern take on a traditional custom - you clever thing!
Seagazer
I'm very impressed. I've never made one up. I love doing cross stitch but they take me ages to do. I think some of the designs are a bit twee shall we say. I'm doing a country garden scene with a gate in at the moment which is ok (taken me about 8 years on and off). I've got another couple that people have bought me and they are one of those liliput cottage type ones and an art deco type of lady. I collect Florence figurines (30's style ladies) but the cross stitch I have is a bit too twee for me.
