Newmarcell
Hi all, I'm upgrading from an eglu to a cube. I understood the mk 1 / mk 2 when buying my eglu. How many mks of cube are there? And what are the differences between each one? Many thanks, Newmarcell
Ygerna
I *think* the cube itself is the original, the bars are now plastic rather than wood. There is also a new run door, but the basic cube hasn't altered. Of course someone with great knowledge than I shall be along to give the definitive answer soon
Snowy
Yes there is only one cube, it has had tweaks in design I think, but not the major differences that there were between the mk1 and mk2 eglus.
Purplemaniacs
Yes I agree with Snowy and Ygerna there is only one version of the cube. Our girls live in the eglu although we have a new unused cube at the moment, the cube looks great, it does not leak, I am looking forward to moving our girls into it. What colour are you going to get? Chrissie
Janty
I got confised at first (not difficult). I think that some of the pre-cube members used to refer to the cube as the mark III.
Newmarcell
Thanks for your help - I think I've got my head around it now! I read somewhere that there was a mk3, but reading the posts on here it looks as tho mk 1 and 2 were referring to the eglu. Thanks so much for clearing that up! We get our on Friday, hopefully. We're going to get another 2 hens and keep the eglu while we do introductions, then probably put in on ebay. I'll be sad to let the eglu go because its been so brilliant, just hope the ccube lives up to expectations - its got a tough act to follow! Thanks again, Newmarcell
Plum
Have you decided what type of chickens you would like?
TAJ
The cube has not made a 'design change' as the eglu had from mk 1 to mk 2, but has had some changes from the first ones - the changes I know of are: Ends on bolts for closing are now L shaped to make them easier to grab (originally straignt), Thicker axel and welding of wheel unit to cube leg, Foam inserts on drain holes Plastic roosting bars Amended run clips Larger run door/end panel amendment I am sure there are other tweaks I do not know about, but the basic plastic parts remain unchanged. Newmarcell
Thanks for info on the cube changes. We're going to get our new 'girls' from Merrydale Poultry (http://www.merrydalepoultry.co.uk) in Leicester, where we had our others from. I wouldn't consider anywhere else, as Merrydale are fantastic. I'm hoping to get a Sussex and a Merrydale Crested, which lay a blue egg. However, the Crested aren't ready yet and I'm not sure if I'll be able to wait once the cube arrives, so I may end up with another breed! Gallina
The shade for the Cube is now made out of a new material, which is another huge improvement. All these changes are things to look out for if anyone is thinking of buying a secondhand cube.

Newmarcell We got our third and fourth girls from Merrydale, Karen is brilliant, one is a Sussex, she is very pretty but not very friendly and tends to go broody, she is not keen on cuddles unlike Lattee who is a Merrydale Sweetie. When we get some more I would like a Crested too and the white laying one can't think what they are called. Chrissie
Janty
Merrydale are good. We got our original girls from Karen.
