The Dogmother
What lovely pictures Lesley, that barnie at the back certainly looks like a cockerel
Martin B
Great pictures and nelson looks stunning, he may need a few tail feathers.
The Dogmother
Is the legbar at the bottom of the picture the one that I was cuddling the other week? She's cute
buffie
They are all so lovely. I never found out if Herbert was going to be ...well....in the pot or has he been given a reprieve BBx
The Dogmother
Weeeell, he was going back to Lesley's to be destined for the pot, but it sounds like Louise might be convinced now - she'd really like him, but is worried about her neighbours. Paola
Great pics Lesley WOW what a big bird Nelson is, he is gorgeous. I am only used to looking at my bantam girls
The Dogmother
That's a shame, but I'm more than hapy for him to go to Lesley's anyway. I was going to hand him over htis weekend when we went to the market, as we go past L&C's door. But they're now very busy this weekend, so I'll sort it out another time. Tamsin
If Herb grows up to look like his dad Nelson he will be a very gorgeous boy.
The Dogmother
He would be so handsome, but Nelson has a strong pair of lungs on him and my neighbours wouldn't appreciate it. I think his amourous demands might well squash my little girls - they need a more delicate boy for their attentions

Martin B
I'm saving this thread from going off the page. Update please Clare, if you have time!
The Dogmother
Only a quick on with no photos, thanks for saving it Martin! The chooks all seem to freerange well together now and move in and out of each others houses happily., with the big hens eating all the growers pellets, which are for the chicks Herbert is now enormous and towers above his surrogate mum, he has some impressive headgear too. The other barnie which I thought was possibly male, now looks like it definitely is - having a bigger comb and miniature wattles. I htink that Lavinia is getting a bit fed up with mothering them now - she's done her job and done it very well, they don't really need her now except to cuddle up to at night. The plan is for the two males to go back to Lesley & Carl's farm when they have juggled the others round and found some room. I am happy to hang onto them for the time being provided that they don't start crowing We will keep the female barnie, which Rosie has called Betty Spaghetti ! I hope to integrate her and Lavinia back into the eglu lot.

Aunty e
Chick and Penny have been in with the big gals for a bit now as Penny was looking increasingly annoyed with her giant baby. Chick has now taken to sleeping under Maggie. Fickle thing that it is. Should Chick be a girl she'll want a new home in a few weeks. Say just in time for christmas.....
