I discovered when I was in Spain at the weekend, and needed medical treatment, that my EHIC (the old E111) card had expired. Luckily the sensible Spanish were fine about it and didn't kick up a fuss, but I'm going to renew it now and everyone else's in the family, as we got them at the same time. They only last 2 years. The new ones last for 5 years, apparently.

So anyway, you might want to check and make sure yours is in date still - it's in small print so it's easily missed (at least that's what I told myself).

You can renew here:

hi

ive had an E111 in the past but have no idea where it is - can i still get the new thing? When i looked you could either apply if you'd never had one or renew if you had but ive lost the old style one that I had!?! any ideas what i should do?!

Stacey, I should imagine you can just apply as if you never had one, and they'll either send you a new EHIC card or tell you what to do if not. I expect lots of people will be in the same position as you. Have you clicked on the link I put in my posting? I think that's probably your best bet.
