Janepie33
Can anyone help? We have had our girls for nearly 2 weeks now. Tilly our bluebelle has laid 8 lovely (small) eggs and a couple of soft ones so far. She eats anything and everything, is always first out of the eglu in the morning and seems to be happy and active. The problem is that she seems much thinner than when she first arrived. Lilly the snowbelle hasn't started laying yet and she seems to be getting chubbier each day. Is there a link between laying and the weight of a chicken? The only food the have is the layers pellets, the occasional corn on the cob to share. A few sunflower seeds at bed time and whatever they dig up in the garden. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks Jane
feemcg
Hi Jane. When I got my 3 (4 weeks ago) I felt they were all the same size. Now Beauty, who is medium sized and top chicken is laying most days, Belle is definitely thinner and smaller and has just started laying again after a 2 week break and Jasmin is a big fat lump and not laying! I have read a few people on here saying their Bluebelles are the smallest but theres also a pic of a huge one (not sure whos it is). I am a wee bit worried as I feel Belle is smaller because Beauty tries to keep her away from all the goodies but as shes laying again i'm assuming she's ok. Janepie33
Thanks for your reply Fee. My girls seem quite evenly matched at the moment and it is so funny watching them chasing each other about trying to eat the same bit of food. It reminds me of small childen in the playground! Aren't Bluebelles gorgous?! I don't get anything done in the house, as I keep watching my girls. Jane
feemcg
I know what you mean - I go out with my friend once a week for lunch and I'm ashamed to say when she phoned this morning I was diappointed cos I wanted to stay and 'play' with the chickens! And I've been out cleaning out the tray and nest-box etc. for the second time this week - my beds aren't even made and the floors not been swept for a week! Definitely a bad dose of chickenitis!
