annettec
I am sure this has been answered lots of times before and is also probably a silly question I am about to worm my three girls for the first time and have Flubenvet 1 % . Have weighed out my 2kg of food but do i add 6g of medication or multiply it by 3 as i have three chickens ! eg add 18g of medicine ? to the food It would seem so much easier to add it to a grape and hand feed but wasn't sure if this was ok ? and then how much to give per chicken ? Thanks for any advice
Griffin
I've added it to grapes in the past, it's very easy if you're dosing a small number. A grape a day for seven days was a doddle.
atsw
If given according to the manufacturers instructions, it's 1 tsp powder to 4 kg feed. This ratio to be fed over 7 days. If you have some left over at the end of the 7 day, discard it. For those with only two or three hens, you mix 1/2 tsp with 2 kg food. Give very little in the way of treats during the course, so that they eat predominantly the medicated pellets. The other way of doing things, which I found works really well for our hens, is the 'grape method'. You cut a grape in half, and dip the cut edge in the Flubenvet powder. Then feed each hen with half a grape each day for 7 days. Because it's strong stuff, it's important that each hen only has half a grape each day. However, it's also important that each hen does get half a grape each day for the medication to be effective. If you can't be sure to feed each hen independently via the 'grape method', then use a medicated batch of layer pellets. Andrew
helenc
With the 1% version its 6g per 2kg of feed, if you add it to the food the chickens will just take the right amount of feed and also dose themselves throughout the day rather than all in one go. annettec
This really is a fantastic site !!! Within 20 mins, lots of advice thank you all so much, am off to add my Flubenvet Thanks to all
Redwing
I add the Flubenvet to a small quantity of pellets add a DROP of cod liver oil (don't go to town with the stuff!) mix really well then add those pellets to more, mix really well, then to the rest of the pellets and mix, it seems to distribute better that way than if you sprinkle the powder into 2kg pellets in one go The grape method works for a lot of peopl but I found my chickens tp either get two grapes or spit it out in the poo tray and I would find it next day and wonder who didn't get their dose! Margalot
I do the add to the pellets and hold back on the treats method, which i know worked last time as we had dead worms in the poo I wormed my chooks upon arrival and then about 3 weeks ago, as I'm sure they didnt eat too many pellets on the first worming. So that was about 3 months apart, Ooh the satisfaction of seeing those horrid parasites being killed was good
