Leicester_H
Hi Since there's always someone here with useful advice, thought I'd ask here before google!! We have had our loft converted and I'm sure I won't hear the door bell from up there so was thinking of getting a wireless one with (probably) 2 chime boxes so one can go downstairs and one upstairs. Anyone got any experience of these things ?? H
kitchens
Yes. We got ours from Homebase but made by Friedland. Usually there is a display so that you can press the buttons and hear the chimes (you usually get a choice of what chime you want to set it to) but do check them first because some of them leave a lot to be desired (Yankee Doodle Dandy etc ). Ours just goes ding dong!!
poachedegg
They have some in Aldi for £7.99 we bought one a few weeks ago as DS2 (15) can't hear us once he is ensconsed in his bedroom and we were forever shouting him........it works wonderfully and makes for a more peaceful house! We have the bell down stairs on the kitchen top which also flashes a blue light when pressed and DS has the other end on his desk - it plays a large amount of tunes and flashes too and it's digital. I know they have some left at the one near us (being Aldi, when they're gone, they're gone), so if you want me to pick one up for you - just let me know. Redwing
We got one from Argos, watch the frequency setting though, ours set off our burglar alarm (not funny at the time!)
Seagazer
We've got one, its from B & Q I think and its much better than the old battery one. It also has a light that flashes on it when the doorbell is rung. I wondered what was going on the first couple of times.
Guest
I've had an Aldi one for ages - it's brill, long range and good and loud! They still have some in our local one too.
Lewis
We got one from Argos, watch the frequency setting though, ours set off our burglar alarm (not funny at the time!) We had one, and a button on the TV remote used to set it off all the time. It didn't last long
Hen Watch
Got one about 5 years ago with two chime boxes and put the 2nd one near the back door so I can hear it if I'm in the garden. When we first got one years ago it took a good few weeks of answering the door to no one... until we realised that the house 6 doors down was on the same frequency and when visitors rang their doorbell, ours went off too. Just had to adjust it and then it was fine. Can't help with a recomendation about which one as it was such a long time ago that I got it. Ain't Nobody Here
I didn't think I needed a new doorbell but now you mention it, people find it hard to get it to ring . I've put a little notice on it saying "press hard" but people don't seem to notice it . How do these work? Do you just screw it to your door frame and then have the other bits wherever you want indoors?

ANH, you put the button part on the door with screws or an adhesive pad, the ringy bit goes indoors and either plugs in or is battery run, they are very neat. You then click a little tab button thingy to set the frequency, all fitted and up and running in less than five mins
..lay a little egg for me
We have the bell down stairs on the kitchen top which also flashes a blue light when pressed and DS has the other end on his desk - it plays a large amount of tunes and flashes too and it's digital. That's brilliant
cockadoodle1
Hi I own one of these and have had it for many years same one but like triggers sweeping brush we have had new bell pushes and new ringers. We also have this problem that it can go off up to 6 hours after it has been pushed not too good in the middle of the night. please put a sign on it if you get one to make sure it is only pushed once cos I think this is the problem
Milly
We had a battery one (Friedland) - but kept finding that on the rare occasions when someone tried to ring the bell the batteries had run down. We recently gave up on it and fitted a traditional wind up one - it's very loud so there shouldn't be a problem hearing it. Milly
