Phosphorus
I have 5 eggs resting in my spare room today. 2 red black araucana and 3 black araucana (one of the red black araucana eggs had a crack so I am down from my original 6 ) Can I put them under broody Gemma at any time of the day or is night better? Any recommended way of doing it so that she doesn't reject them - appreciate I swap them slowly for the ones that she has under her at the moment. Do I swap them when she is off the nest or do it in situ so that she doesn't go back to cold eggs? Thanks, so exciting

Solopuff
I've always put mine under at night when the brood is sleepy and all in one go with no problems whatsoever. Good luck
smanners
Oh isn't it exciting? We've got some Legbar , Leghorn and Maran to set tonight under Rocky in the .She has been broody for 6 days despite initial attempts to discourage her. The breeder recommended that we do it at night! Lucky for us they will take any cockerels hatched back from us, so that's one dilemma solved Now not sure how I'm going to sleep for 21 nights Fingers crossed that all goes well for you Phosphorus

Can I ask what you did about the roosting bars - I just realised I forgot to take them out and have left them insitu for now. Wondered about taking them out about day 20 or something and filling the whole of the eglu bottom with aubiose? Well 5 eggs now under broody with a couple of non fertile ones which I will take out when she isn't looking later today. Did it late afternoon, well just before dusk, but she was okay with this and I think is still sitting on them. Will check later today if she has managed to keep them warm So excited. How are yours half dozen - any news?

Wondered about taking them out about day 20 or something and filling the whole of the eglu bottom with aubiose? I left the roosting bars in for now, but will do the same as you! We had just moved Rocky from the cube where she had taken up residence despite the other girls sitting on top of her to lay their eggs She's on her own now and settled into Eglu just fine She's sitting tight on her 11 eggs! She has a lovely disposition and is very courteous to us when we check on her ( NO Swearing or pecking thus far anyway) just some feather puffing and clucking ! This has been a surprise to us as she's a black rock and I didn't think hybrids got broody We were going to increase our flock anyway with some Legbars so after lots of research and a long chat with the breeder we went ahead with hatching our own. I just she doesn't give up early before the job's complete.
Phosphorus
Sounds just like our set up. Gemma is a bit more feisty this year though (she went broody a lot last year) - is pecking me when I check on her or turf her out into run to feed etc. She is a very insistant sitter Gemma is a speckeldy and seems to be very prone to being broody, none of our other girls have except Roast who went broody once last year but not again - she is a black rock as well We were surprised. Glad to hear you have the bars still in as well - that sent me into panic mode when I realised this morning
