Space Chick
Bargain! Hope you enjoy your ice-cream.
Mrs Frugal
It looks as if it works in the same way as my little Phillips one which has a removable bowl which you put in the freezer. If so, it should be a great success! I love mine. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it . A great bargain!
Karen & co.
I bought an Aldi icecream maker last year, and think it's really good the children think the icecream is the best an extra bowl would be good, but I have been known to make two lots straight after each other the second just takes a little longer Karen x

Guest
as usual, I never get round to doing things when I say I will ! Just made up a batch and it's in the machine now. If the custard base is anything to go by, it is delish! I stewed about 4 stalks of rhubarb with about 2 tsps sugar til it was mush and let it cool. Then I gently heated about 160ml milk with 2 tsps vanilla extract, then poured that on 3 egg yolks which had been beaten with about 100g caster sugar. Put it back on the heat and stirred til thicker then let it cool. Then whipped a 284ml carton of dble cream til stiff and folded everything together and tried to pour it thru the small opening in the ice-cream maker (a funnel might have helped but we licked up the spillages ) just waiting for it to be ready now
Blackrocksrock
Sounds delicious - cannot wait for the verdict - you have done better than I did.
Guest
haagen daas can forget it, it's home made from here on in! It came out like a soft whip but it's gone in the freezer to harden off but it tastes lovely! Hopefully we'll be having some later so will let you know the final verdict later

Mrs Frugal
I came home from the lottie yesterday with a HUGE basket of rhubarb so will be giving this a go if I remember to put the ice cream machine bowls in the freezer!!
Blackrocksrock
Looks good and yummy - mine was not so good at all but did not make it like you did - will have a go when I can find the bowl for the freezer
Guest
it's even better after having had a night in the freezer to firm up completely we're having some later with some of those buttery belgium waffley biscuits
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
How does one of these work? I've never understood how it 'makes' the ice cream. How does it differ from mixing everything up by hand and putting it in the freezer? I'd love to have a go at making some ice cream and if this makes the job easier, then maybe I'd get one. I just don't understand yet...
Guest
if you make it by hand you have to keep taking it out of the freezer to churn it by hand to stop ice crystals forming while it freezes, the machine churns it and freezes it for you then you just bung it in the freezer to finish off hardening. missuscluck
Im tempted to get one. They have them in out Aldi too. I went in today to shop but didnt get one. Is it a major faff making the mix to put in the machine and how long does it take to make. How much ice cream does it hold.
Guest
it was slightly faffy but I will be using it again because it's a good way to use the eggs, I can make whatever flavour I like (fancying rum and raisin next with some of 2 sheds' rum ) and I know I can actually call my efforts "ice-cream"! Not sure how much it holds/makes, at an educated guess I'd about a litre? We've been eating it btwn us for the last 3 nights. I bought some waffle cones from Aldi today to put a scoop in for pud tonight
missuscluck
Thankyou. I might get one. If its fed you for 3 nights it should be enough to feed my lot in one go. I'd hate to put in the effort and then us all end up with a small spoonfull. Ill have a think and might treat my self to one.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Mmmm waffle cones! Mmmm! (I see they also sell Oyster shells in supermarkets too. Childhood favourite wafer!)
missuscluck
YAY! I got one. Had a chat to mrcluck about it and he got me one on his way into work on Saturday. I have used Justines Rhubarb recipie which makes a lovley Rhubarb and Custard flavour ice cream. It wasnt too faffy to make the mix up and it tastes divine The rcipie booklet that's with it is a bit hopeless. I'll check out the internet for some more recipies. Has anyone done frozen yoghurt?? missuscluck
Made a mango one now with the 49p special offer Mango's from Aldi. Its really nice. Milder in flavour than the rhubarb one. I think if I make the rhubarb one again I'll put less rhubarb in and try and make it a bit milder.
Charlottechicken
Okay, okay don't keep going on about how great it is, I've bought one today (whaddaya mean no-one forced me ) and I'm so not a gadget person I am hoping to make lots of loganberry sorbet in the summer (with maybe a dash of gin or vodka ) but I have to think of something to make this weekend to check it works OK. Thanks for the post Poet, I had been thinking about one of these but they are usually around £40, so a great saving, and it looks well made too
missuscluck
So what have you all been making in your ice cream makers? I have tried Rhubarb ice cream, Rasperry frozen Yoghurt, Mango Ice cream and Chocolate Orange Ice cream. The Chocolate orange one was made with the basic ice cream mix plus a tin of mandarins and some bashed up chocolate. Yummy Anyone come up with anything good?
