Hangman
Hi folks, I had a bit of a play with the camera this afternoon - the hens seemed to enjoy the sun! The pics aren't embedded as they're quite big http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm284/iabt_hangman/?action=view¤t=IMG_0003.jpg http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm284/iabt_hangman/?action=view¤t=IMG_0017.jpg http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm284/iabt_hangman/?action=view¤t=IMG_0018.jpg

LaPoule
Lovely photos - is the lavender one an Araucana? They are definitely on my wish list ( ). What's she like? And you have BEES! I so want bees, but Le Monsieur thinks it might push the neighbours over the edge Can't imagine what they will think of the Pygmy Goats then... Hangman
Thanks for the comments folks, much appreciated The Araucana is called 'Marge' and the Sussex featured in the photos is called "Vera Velociraptor" - I'm not in charge of the names, for the record . Marge is a very friendly bird and has tamed considerably - her and the Cream Legbar we have are best of chums, and as such, we thought we'd never tame her to the level our dear Audrey (Gingernut - by far the tamest bird we have) is, but we're nearly there. The reason I say the Legbar could have been a problem is that she's an absolute nut-case. I'm going to have to film it one day The birds and the bees (lol) get on very well and there are never any problems, honey bees are very calm (most of the time!) so I can get within feet of the hives without being bothered; the chicken's favourite sunbathing spot is at the back of the apiary so the bees are not bothered by chickens either. If you're looking to start beekeeping, I'd recommend going along to a meeting with your local club - unless you have three or four hives plus, many people would never know you had them - they really cause no problems at all. I've never been stung by our bees - yet!
mostin
Love the names . Especially "Vera the Velociraptor". I love the look of Marge. I have some green laying hybrid hens that have Aracauna in the mix, and they look very similar. Lovely to see them out and about enjoying the sunshine . MedusA
Lovely! And you have bees !! My thoughts exactly. I especially love the Lavender Araucana. I have two and amaze DD in that I can tell them apart. OH says I spend too much time with my girls. As if? 2nd bee-keeping lesson on Tuesday.
