Chook n Boo Mum
Wishing you lots of luck with that one Tracy! It's beautiful and as you say, not a weekend job!! I think we'll need regular updates on this project!! Crumbs, I'd have thought the least they could do was include the book with the instructions in the price, or a discounted rate for it at least ! Plum
How exciting don't forget the ruler.

Sha x I bought the book cheap on Amazon to go through before I made my decision - if you add up the material needed in the book it comes to 9.95 metres and everyone sells this fabric at £10 per metre, so the 'kit price' is fair to be honest. However if you join their club for £5 a year you get a discount on all purchases, so by doing that and buying the cutter, board and ruler (discounted combined starter pack), plus thread and some extra pins I have got free delivery and £10 off so as long as I get a lovely looking quilt at the end I will be happy. TAJ
All the 'extra bits' I order arrived today, but still waiting for the fabric - I knew three were out of stock and waiting to come in 2 weeks ago, but the order says due in May/June! Will I be able to wait? Tracy

TAJ
I fabric finally arrived Saturday 30th May. It took me 2 hours to iron it and I have started cutting it out. So far I have cut 154 out of the 589 pieces needed and that took me a number of hours. At least so far the most of the same fabric in a template has been 29 - the edging requires 104 each of two fabrics, so I am sure I will be bored at that one. The cutting wheel, mat & ruler were a well worth while investment - as each pice is eith square of a 45 degree cut it is far more accurate than using a template. The colours look great, but this will be a long-term labour of love! Tracy
Snowy
Oh my goodness! Those numbers would put me off! (mind you, the one I want to do has a fair few, but not that many!) Can't wait to see some pics of it in progress - Kaffe Fassett fabric is so gorgeous!
Plum
Wow I only cut a block or two at at time. Can't imagine cutting a whole quilt in one go. Come on photos of fabric before you cut it all up.
bigmommasally
Well Done on getting started Tracy. I don't think I would have had the patience to do all the cutting in one go. Don't forget to post pics of your progress.
TAJ
I don't think I have any choice but to cut it all at the same time (accept the edging squares I guess) as the cutting is in a certain order, so big pieces are cut first from each fabric, then the smaller elements, so I cannot just cut what I need for one square (it is 5 * 5 = 25 squares for the whole quilt) as it will mean not cutting the correct bits of fabric. As an example a few fabrics are 'fussy cut', so you centre a flower in each cut square, but some of the smaller bits from the same fabric are cut with no flower elements showing. I will try to spread out fabrics and photo tonight. Tracy
Fizzle Knit
Was wondering how you were getting on with your quilt the other day. Is KF fabric as beautiful as it looks in the photos? I have one in mind I'd like to do (not as complicated as yours though!)
TAJ
As promised - the fabrics and you can probably see the stacks of those already cut out. There are 22 different fabrics - I think they look brighter than shown in the picture. Still quite a few to cut. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii49/TAJchicks/IMG_2355.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii49/TAJchicks/IMG_2354.jpg Tracy

TAJ
I am not sure they will make for a restful nights sleep when finished. I have been cutting out some more - just 35 diamonds to go then I have cut everything for the 25 main squares - that will 'just' leave the 54 squares and 208 triangle left to cut for the edges, so I am almost halfway - and that has taken a week! Plum
Are you starting piecing next then or keeping going with cutting to the bitter end. You are an example to us all. I'd have made a mistake by now.
Snowy
You are very patient! I hate cutting out even for a small unit, I just want to get sewing! That fabric is rather beautiful.
TAJ
I haven't made a mistake as yet - but I am only doing a bit each day and stoping before I get too tired each day - I can see if I hurried the job I would easily make a mistake though. I am hoping the edging will be quicker to cut as it is just squares & triangles - easier than diamonds (I hope!) My plan is then to put the cut pieces grouped together in the pieces for each of the 25 large squares and then I can just take out a square at a time to work on. Valkyrie
Gorgeous colours - it will be fine in the end, don't worry. Lots of reds for nice warm feeling on winter nights.
TAJ
Well I am on the last set of cuts now I need 104 * two fabrics in triangles - so far 72 done, so 136 to cut and then all the cutting is finished (for the front that is, binding & backing will be done later.
