Peanuts

Recommended Posts

Fascinating! I have sprouted peanuts to eat as "sprouted seeds" in the past. They were just unroasted in their shell nuts that you would buy in the supermarket.

The last lot I tried didn't work though :(

I'm not sure if they were"treated" in some way, or whether it was just too cold in the cupboard I had them in.

I will try and grow the plants instead of eating the sprouts, it does look fun!

I'll use the same packet and see if they work now it's a bit warmer.

If you use the untreated birdy peanuts, they will grow. I used to have a squirrel (haven't seen any for ages - not one) and she used to bury them all around the garden. I got lots of tiny plants where she hadn't eaten them, but the winter cold and wet kills them off. I did get a bit worried that the garden would be overrun with them.

Edited to add - try getting the peanuts in the shells - they should be untreated and you will usually get 2 in a pod.
