Chook n Boo Mum
She says they grow from seeds, would they grow from unroasted peanuts you buy in the shops I wonder ? I knew they grew underground as their other name is groundnuts, but had never seen a piccy, thanks Karin. Sha x
redhotchick
Fascinating! I have sprouted peanuts to eat as "sprouted seeds" in the past. They were just unroasted in their shell nuts that you would buy in the supermarket. The last lot I tried didn't work though I'm not sure if they were"treated" in some way, or whether it was just too cold in the cupboard I had them in. I will try and grow the plants instead of eating the sprouts, it does look fun! I'll use the same packet and see if they work now it's a bit warmer. Egluntyne
I knew they grew like that, but didn't imagine they would grow in the UK. Are you tempted to give it a try?
bluekarin
I'm thinking of giving it a go. £2.44 is not much really. I'll try them in a large pot and let you know how they go.
Budgies
Can you imagine the chickens' delight at digging up peanuts?!!
chickenanne
I always thought they needed much more warmth to coax them into flowering, and that they grew massive. I guess you coul;d try and see.... or maybe google peanut growing instructions and see if you get more tips somewhere else.

Valkyrie
If you use the untreated birdy peanuts, they will grow. I used to have a squirrel (haven't seen any for ages - not one) and she used to bury them all around the garden. I got lots of tiny plants where she hadn't eaten them, but the winter cold and wet kills them off. I did get a bit worried that the garden would be overrun with them. Edited to add - try getting the peanuts in the shells - they should be untreated and you will usually get 2 in a pod.
