wiblick
I think some people here use those treat balls that you put the seed inside and they have to roll it around to get the stuff out What do people think of this one, it's only 7cm, too small? http://www.zooplus.ie/shop/rodents/toys_transport/ferret_toys/126868 or this one? http://www.zooplus.ie/shop/dogs/dog_toys_dog_training/activity_dog_toys/snack_activity_balls/129749
Kalu
Hi Have you looked in the Omlet shop? They have a wire one in there that i think is about £1.99? I keep meaning to order it - something else to do this evening!
Kalu
Although thinking about it, the ones you have suggested are more for play aren't they.....hmm maybe that is in addition to the wire ball that hangs greens up for the girls to nibble at........oooh there are so many lovely chook things to buy! wiblick
Fear not Kalu a wire ball shape thing is in the shopping trolley for the leaf treats! These ones are more for grain.
Budgies
I bought the first style for my girls in yellow plastic with orange carrots on it! They were TERRIFIED of it, and never adjusted to it at all!! They also disliked the red broom, the orange bucket, the orange lawnmower, the green plastic watering can, and so the list goes on! I would highly recommend seeing if your girls are curious about brightly coloured plastic before buying one!
wiblick
that is hilarious! If only it came in red, they are supposed to love red things..
Jennyhenny
I have the first one and the girls love kicking it around and getting the corn out Jennyhenny
cats_dogs_chicks
Have you checked it out on the UK zooplus site? Cheaper there than on the Irish site for most things.....granted I have never bought off either as I would never be around for delivery
wiblick
that's mad! they have an Irish site and they will ship to Ireland from the UK site which is cheaper? And thanks JH will make the purchase based on your recommendation!

Peachy77
I got the 1st one. Its quite good as you can adjust the size of the hole that the treats come out of depending on what you are putting in there. Think the 2nd one will be too big for corn, loads would come out at once i think. Must admit though that i am terrible for rembering to fill it up! Got mine in a local pet some for a couple of pound. Think it was sold as a guinea pig toy.
Patricia W
I've got the yellow one with carrots on. They love it! It came from Pets at Home and was only about £1.49 I think Tricia

wiblick
Thanks so much everyone. I'll not bother with the second one, it's hugely expensive anyway, but might get two of the first. I had hoped to have them in the run when the girls arrived, unfortunately something else I need to order is out of stock until the 17th. Shall hope and pray they like it... wiblick
An update. They love it! They watch for it as I carry it into the run. I only give it to them on odd days. They are a fairly fearless bunch. Whatever the drawbacks are of having the babies (12 weeks) in with the older ones (18 weeks and 10 months) it does mean that the older ones show the way to the younger ones. My older ones grew up in a farm yard and are used to a lot of noise and chaos and new things. Now to work on the 'salad bowl' so as greens don't immediately get squashed into the dirt! Budgies
that's great news Wiblick, I'm so glad they like it!! Having ditched mine I'm going to have to buy a new one now because the new girls might like it!! You can buy hanging "cages" like bird feeders that have fairly wide mesh exteriors. I used to hang greens and spinach leaves etc in that so they could peck at them and pull them through the wire if they wanted to. If you hang it a bit high they do a graceful little jump!! wiblick
I bought one wire cage ball thing but they just drag the full leaves through and walk them into the ground and the spaces are too large to put shredded leaves in. I might try a peanut feeder. Or something in-between if I can find it. Broccoli was a huge hit, they took a few desultory pecks at apples. Raisins are popular. & we've had great fun with canned and live crickets.

Raisins were the first non-layers pellets treat my girls ever got and boy did they like them! Never tried crickets, but mealworms were popular!
