It was only £1 - BUT - ????

Recommended Posts

 Any thoughts appreciated -

I bought over the Internet a pair of Speedo trunks for YS using Swimstop. I also purchased 2 pairs from a seperate company for ES.

Swimstop could not provide the original trunks, so agreed a suitable replacement. They charge £1 P&P ( which the other company did not - free P&P). Original trunks were £9.00 - and my card was debited for £10 HOWEVER the replacement trunks were only £8.00.

When I phoned to say I should have only been charged £9.00 - the woman got really upity and pointed out the £1.00 P&P - at which I then informed her the pair of trunks supplied was cheaper :!: .

I know it was only £1 - but I thought it was really naughty of them, and also not once did she apologise for the oversight ( which had happened and I did understand ). This was really lousy customer service - and she was on the defensive from the off - surely these businesses should be trying to "please" customers given the current economic climate :? .

To add insult - the trunks sent were actually cheaper on the website for ES purchases, and they did not charge for postage. I would have been almost £3 better off ordering through them, than with Swimstop, only initially they did not have the style YS wanted.

Rant over - it was not the £1 that bothered me - it was the implication I could not add 8 and 1 together to get 9, with no apology when it was brought to their attention. :shameonu:

I hate the presumption that the customer is there to serve the company and not the other way round.

I bought something for £2.99 the other day and the woman in the shop gave me two pounds change from a fiver and said chirpily 'I'm sooooo sorry, I don't have any pennies!' It was the presumption that irked me, not the penny. That her keeping the penny was more important than treating me with some respect.

That's not my problem. If they advertise or provide something at an agreed price, it's the principle! Whether it's a pound or a penny, if they treat you like they're fiddling you or thinking you're stupid or diddle-able, you're not going to go back.

The first thing you sell in business is yourself. That woman has just sold a rotten impression of that company, and the word is spreading. She was a very silly girl.

As for you - I'd write to someone higher up if you can, and tell them that slack customer service loses them multiple customers - and is that really worth a pound?!

I would complain and get my money! Its the principle.

ANother example is that I ordered a pair of shoes for my daughter and they sent the wrong size out so I advised them and they said they would send the correct pair. I said that I am happy to send the wrong ones back of course but asked "what about the postage cost" she said of course it wasnt as problem and would put money/stamps in the package with the news ones to cover it.

When they arrived there was nothing to cover the P&P of me having to send the wrong ones back so I emailed and advised her and she said she would send something. I am still waiting but its a small company and she is very nice so probably just busy.

I know it wouldnt cost me a huge amount to package them and post them back but it would add money on to a decent priced pair of shoes and make them a few quid more when it wasnt my fault.

I am not tight and as menitoned its the principle opposed to the money.

:D Thanks for the replies - glad its not just me having an issue

The woman was abrupt with me from the 1st word - never apologised and said she would credit my account with £1, with such a sulky rude tone of voice, as if it was my fault for noticing.

One lesson learned - if anyone ever substitutes an item, always make sure you are charged for THAT item. I would imagine they would soon be on your case if they needed more money to cover costs, not the other way around

Certainly will NOT being doing business with them ever again !

:? Not sure it would make any difference Cinnamon. The e-mail confirming dispatch was from the "woman" I think - it is only a small business by the looks of it.

Ironic as they pride themselves on finding the hard to get swimwear, especially for juniors - makes me think it is more of a "I have an empire" - rather than a small outlet for swimming clubs. Grandious delusional ( who also cannot add 1 and 8 together  ).

I understand oversights and mistakes: I make enough of them myself at work!

But I cannot abide rudeness - you pay these people's wages! If they didn't have customers they wouldn't get paid, and it amazes me how many times people just treat customers like muck. To me, shop assistants and wiatresses should be polite, freindly, and bear in mind that they're getting paid to be there - whereas the customer is paying to be there.

G'rrrr.

I'd send a letter/e-mail to the top honcho to complain.

We bought a collar and lead for Molly from 'Pets at home' the collar was too big so we took the collar and lead back and got a different one but they had no harnesses in store that matched the new collar and lead (she had kennel cough so we wanted a harness) so I ordered one off their web site. The web site said up to 4 days delivery, by the 8th day still no harness!

I phoned the cust svc no. and the cheeky bleep on the other end mentioned "it was only a small order"!!! What did that have to do with it and why even say it!!??? We spent a fortune in the store but that's not the point!

I e-mailed one of the directors of Pets At Home and they sent a harness the next day by special delivery and sent me £15 in vouchers to spend at the store!

It usually pays to go to the top!

By the way, I saw the woman I e-mailed on The Apprentice on Weds, spooky!:D
