missuscluck
Hi all, sorry I dont venture in this part of the forum much but I have a question or two... One of my Light Sussex hens has gone broody. It was always the intention that she would become a mummy at some point but I think she has reached that conclusion before we got round to it. Im wondering about getting her some fertile eggs. I'm going to have a ring round tommorrow and see if I can find any nearby. Has anyone any suggestions/advice for me. We have reared day olds before but never hatched with a broody. (I have no problems with the resulting hatch regards some of them being cockerels and dispatching any that need to meet their maker sooner than hoped) Thankyou Edited May 15, 2009 by Guest
Lewis
Sounds like the right time to do it. If she's good, she'll look after the chicks and do it all for you
missuscluck
My friend has some fertile eggs so we are going to let her try and hatch them. She is still sitting tight. She has stopped laying altogether. We have been putting her out to have a leg stretch, food and water then she makes her way straght back to her nest. Its been 4 days or so now. The eggs are Rhode Island red's we are going to give her 6 and see how she goes on. Should be collecting them tommorrow and Im quite excited

Karen & co.
Fab news We used to rear ots of chicks when I lived with my parents, there is nothing nicer than watching mum and eggs, and the morning the chicks peep out from under her feathers takes your breath away Karen x
