Mazzarina
I was just wondering what other people's experience of this fine stuff was. I bought some to anoint my , whose feathers are being eaten by the other two and . It seems to be helping; hates being handled so it's been an interesting wrestle getting the tar on her (a pastry brush was the way forward!), and quite a bit on me , but she's still laying regularly and seems happy enough. The other two, however, stopped laying altogether for a couple of days, except for a couple of softies. Bertha the had a particularly sulky day, looking listless and hunched (I suspect egg-bound) until she laid her softie. They're looking better now, but could the Stockholm tar be doing bad things to their insides? The idea was that they should stop eating , not that they should eat the tar... I know a few Ukadex-users have reported that it's sent their chickens off-colour. I'm loath to stop using the tar since it's having some effects on the pecking problem, but I don't think I can live with the reproachful glances of and ! Daphne
We have occasionally used stockholm tar spray - easy to apply and effective. I didn't notice any ill effects on anybody else, but our pecking was very mild, so maybe with more determined cases they ingest more. The Dogmother
I've not needed to use it on my girls, but have applied it for others and I've not heard of any ill effects from ingesting it. I'd be tempted to carry on until they get out of the habit of pecking her. Have you tried peck rings?
Mazzarina
Thanks both for your help. I think I will persevere with the tar, Claret. I tried to fasten a beak bit on Bertha but failed miserably, and I suspect all 3 chickens are now participating in the pecking, so I'll keep going with the tar and see where we get to. Since my last message, Bertha has laid another softie, run around the garden happily, and done the most extraordinary poo in a shade of deep forest green. So they're now all confined to barracks, having a dose of flubenvet, and will get some bioyoghurt porridge for tea.
The Dogmother
Are you near Banbury Mazzarina? If so, I am happy to come and help you fit the bumper bits; there's a 'nack'
sandyhas3chucks
I have the goo from Omlet, I would say I will never ener subject my girls to it again. Aside from the stink, the fumes nearly knocked me over when I opened up in the morning It got all over my poor girl while she was preening, on her comb, over beak, ears eyebrowns And to cap it all, underneath it had made her red raw. And sooooooooooooooooooo many baths to get rid of the darn stuff, also everything stuck to it. Give me Yucadex any Well that is my experience of it anyway.
