Troopy

Hello there !

Recommended Posts

Hello am recently new to the art of chicken keeping but absolutely loving it. Have had our 2 chooks for about 2 months and when we got then they were approx 5-6 months old. from the day after we got the home they both layed until recently. Chuck is still laying daily however NNBernard has only layed maybe 1 egg in the past week or so. They free range most of the day and no signs of eggs anywhere (Chuck lays in the coop). She was moulting when we got her and seems to still be moulting she has always had a slightly droopy comb but its very red and apart from that eats, drinks, dustbaths and pootles around very happily. Does anyone have any advice on how I can help her moult and encourage the previous egg production ? Cheers muchly x

Welcome to the forum :D

Checking the garden was a good start.

She may have stopped laying to grow back some feathers. You can give her some protein as a bit of a boost, by giving her some tuna or a bit of cat food, as long as it is chicken free (they tend to be more expensive and fish based).

Do they have access to grit? Maybe a bit of limestone flour or grated cuttlefish would be a good move, you can buy it from local "horsey" type shops.

Another question, have they been wormed recently?

It may be worth giving them a dose of Flubenvet. I added it to their layers pellets and seemed to do trick.

Have a look here and here for more information on Flubenvet and worming :D

Hi there thank you for your post sorry its been a long time coming me writing this been very hectic. Have bought a tonic from Omlet and have been adding that to their drinking water, they have access to grit i put some in their feeder and some on the floor of the coop will definately try the catfood and will worm them too which is something i havn't done since getting them. Strange thing is that whilst observing them a bit closer when we were off work for the week its actually Chuck who doesn't seem to be laying and she is the the one who isn't moulting or anything so will definately try what you suggested fingers crossed !! Glad the worming worked for your chooks x :D!egg!
