aqualiv
Hiya everyone! I'm Olivia, currently living in Wiltshire and since yesterday am the proud owner of two lovely ex battery hens callled Mavis and Mable. How do I get those lovely little chickens at the bottom of my post like you all have? Olivia x

CRAZY CHICK
Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of chooks. I am sure you will have lots of fun with your new girls. I was thinking of adding to my two hens with some battery rescue hens but was a bit unsure if I could care for them adequately being a chook novice. I think you are doing a great thing, I feel so sad for those poor caged hens You will have to keep us posted on how you are getting on. Looney
Hey Olivia, Welcome! I'm new too (registered today) and finding this all very exciting! I agree, it would be lovely to hear how you get on with your rescue hens...I have already pre-warned boyf that I may add a third chick to the garden and I would like it to be a rescued hen. I was a bit nervous about starting with two ex-battery hens. My chucks arrived last Thursday and all is going well so far. They appear to prefer trying to roost on the edges of the recycling box in my hallway than going back into their eglu. I know one suggestion would be to keep the back door closed!!! Look forward to hearing how you are getting on!

aqualiv
Well they have been with us 4 days now and have settled in nicely. They've both got lovely characters. Mabel is the cheecky, greedier one and doesn't mind being picked up, Mavis is smaller and doesn't like being picked up yet. They both have scally leg which needs treating but other than that I can't see what the difference between having ex battery hens and non battery hens is.
