Questions about eggs

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've got more questions lol

Orakiah started laying on Tuesday, well she has been laying everyday since, Her eggs have been 68g,70g & 72g and they are dark brown in colour and she lays them before 12pm

but Lady Lay doesn't lay very often she lays pale brown eggs (that pale they are slightly cream) and her eggs are pretty small (her biggest was 64g)

they are both the same breed ( Rhode Island Red X Light Sussex)

Just wondering if this is normal?

Thanks, Raina

Hi

Have had mine for a couple of months 2 GNR and speckledy and bluebelle plus another hybrid and the eggs were tiny(I mean really like pigeon size ) for a while now they are more normal sized, Occassionaly I get a big egg but on the whole they are not huge.

But very tastey

I have no idea what the supermarkets poultry suppliers feed their birds to get such regular huge eggs??

indie :)

Hi all,

I`m very new to all this, our 2 girls arrived on the 20th may, Question for any one... Matilda PP layed her first !egg! the evening of arriving.. good girl.... the following day a soft one, day 3 no egg :( , day 4 another soft egg, day 5 perfect one for her :D day 6 none, day 7 beautiful one, and then none for the last 3 days..... questions coming.... the girls are on grass (and love eating it) of which i move them every few days. do you think they are eating to much grass, which is stoping her laying? or just early days and are still settling down, tino the boxer is much better with them and they dont seem to be bothered by him now. Hilda GNR is younger and has yet to lay her first. any advice would be fab.

Hi Teee. Sounds as though she's probably just settling down.

Their egg laying can be pretty erratic at first and they not only sometimes do soft-shelled eggs but take breaks more often too.

As long as they're both happy and pecking around I wouldn't worry.

My girls did that too. It was mayhem as one had it and the others chased her to try and snatch it from her.

I caught them with a baby bluetit the other day. It was too late to save it and I just  it had died in the nest and been discarded by its parents rather than had fallen to the ground and been caught by them.
