The Big Lunch.... anyone taking part?

Recommended Posts

The adverts really got me thinking about knowing yer neighbours and I really want to get involved but haven't the time to organise one from scratch... have messaged one a couple of streeets away to see if they'll accept 'outsiders' at their party :boohoo:

Sounds a bit of a faff if your council insists on liability insurance, but I'm loving the concept.

Any omleteers got street parties planned?

I remember a huge 'street party' we had in 1977 for the silver jubilee. I was 7 and my sister was 5 and all the kids decorated their bikes with red, white and blue streamers. Our houses backed onto a playing field so we had the party there. It was brilliant!!! All the dads and older kids had a game of football and my dad managed to strain his groin and my mum went mad at him. Happy days :D

Not sure I'd enjoy that sort of thing these days but if someone else organised one we'd probably go and if it was rubbish we'd be close enough to slope off home ;)

go on and try it! many years ago the Hanover festival started in Brighton as a community get together with a band in the local pub and a few stalls including the local church selling jam etc. Its now a fantastic event with a few streets closed, bands in all the local pubs, dancing, street stalls and a procession. really great local event, now with its own association to organise it and get grants etc. It really celebrates all that the locals do, produce, create. start small and you'll be amazed what will happen. I've moved from Brighton now but will return just for this little event! and i'm inviting my new neighbours for a bbq on the big lunch date and lets see what happens!

No-one's organised one on our road, although it is quite a busy main road

Even if I organised one (I'm not going to because I don't have time  ) no-one would come. When it was the jubilee a few people made an effort but only a few people were there :?

We speak to the neighbours around us and over the road so maybe just have a BBQ or something.
