One Man Banned
Gosh I think I must be so good! I have been having an awful lot of dentistry work these last two years now as I have very bad trouble with the old knashers - hereditry unfortuately. It does mean that I have a filling in every tooth somewhere and some really big fillings in my molars. I decided that after years of NHS fillings (those lovely amalgam metal ones) that I wanted my teeth sorting out - hence a large programme of restoration work and lots of trips to the dentist (accompanied by regular debits from the bank account each time!) My dentist Simi is wonderful and really good at keeping me calm - not difficult as I am used to being there now as I go every couple of weeks at the minute. She's also quite suprised that I don't get jaw-ache as some of the treatments (fillings and lots of drilling) have been 45mins long by the time she's finished!! I had a major "change" in my teeth a few weeks ago as the two front ones that we crooked have been reshaped and filed down so they look more normal and dont appear as crooked - beats having a brace! Having a month off now but will be back in December to start the other side of the top teeth to convert to lovely white fillings - it'll look like I've never been for a filling!! YAY! (you'll get to see the "new" teeth at the Jimmy's Farm gathering - at last I have a smile that I LIKE!) A xx
Mrs Frugal
Wow! Well done Andrew ! I'd love to have mine straightened but didn't fancy a brace. Wonder if my dentist would do that? Hmmmm, worth asking!! Can't wait to see the new you!
Cinnamon
Every time I take a daughter to the Orthodontist (as I did this morning) the Ortho says to me....you know, we could sort out your teeth too. I had lots of orthodontistry as a child,as I has terrible buck teeth. They still stick out & are very large, but not as bad as they would have been without the work I inherited a small jaw from my Mum & big old teeth from my Dad - had to have lots of extractions & all that. Although they did work wonders as far as they could at the time, the technology is far better now & they say that I could have great teeth - at a cost I know I could get them fixed up now, but its so expensive & I am not sure if I want to be wearing a brace again
chocchick
Echo what Kate said Andrew. Dentists are OK (if they don't hurt my gums ) but my childhood dentist was nicknamed Butcher Clarkson which wasn't very inspiring Sarah, glad it was OK. I spent from about 11-20 with various braces and retainers as my teeth used to stick out 1cm when I was little. Now just tiny gap as the retainer broke without me noticing and I had moved away from the Manchester orthodentist. I suppose it's how easily you can afford it and whether you can live without changes, or if it would really make you feel better about yourself

The Dogmother
Our childhood dentsist was known as Rabid Rabin as he was a real sadist and we always hated going as children. As soon as I was old enough to choose, I moved to a Kiwi dentist, who was much more gentle, and puzzled at the number of fillings I had as he said that I had great teeth . He took out all 4 of my wisdom teeth, which was no mean feat! Now Rosie and I go to a lovely dentist in Banbury, who puts us both at ease and never does unnecessary work. He has replaced some of the old amalgam fillings with white ones (haven't had a new filing for 15 years now). If I had the money, I would have my teeth straightened with braces as they aren't very straight. Last time I went, I mentioned that I got a rush from the injection; he said that I must be sensitive to the adrenalin in it and that I should ask for the one without it next time I need one - shame - I quite liked that high
theherd123
I hadnt been to the dentist for about 10 years due to horrible experiences when i was a child but OH forced me to have a check up and the dentist told me i needed 11 fillings I felt so ashamed and was shell shocked for days as i religiously clean my teeth morning and night for at least 3 minutes. Anyway i was referred to another clinic to have the work done and when he completed the x rays and an inspection he said i just needed one filling replacing and could not understand why the other dentist had said i needed 11 fillings needless to say i was VERY relieved! Nicola H
I visited my dentist ever day for 8 years....................... No I didn't have manky teeth I was his dental nurse, and boy could I tell you some tales............. I am the worst patient ever and have needed lots of treatment on my upper front teeth due to bad Orthdontics the last time I had to have surgery on them it took me a whole year of pain to pluck up the courage to go. The surgery wasn't very pleasant but not as bad as I thought it would be and the surgeon was lovely and certainly knew his stuff, it cost a fortune but was worth every penny to be able to keep my teeth for a few more years...............
