Fabric Help

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Omleteer Crafters!

I have decided to take the plunge and make Isabelle a dress, i have opted for a very simple and easy to follow pattern but i need to find some fabric but i cant find any anywhere! :(

Ideally im after 100% cotton with a bright repeat pattern.

Can anyone point me in the direction or a good fabric websire with lots of choice? :D

I was about to say 'go to IKEA' but then I saw you want a website. I looked for lovely prints online and only found them sold as fat quarters (boo) so would be pleased if someone else could point me at a good website. Ikea fabric is really very very lovely and bargainous though.

Abakhan sell fabric by the metre, both dressmaking and craft fabric. Worth looking in the craft fabrics as that is usually 100% cotton as it is better for patchworking.

Again, mainly craft cottons, but some lovely prints, and all sold by the metre:

Will have another look in a minute - gotta go, kids killing each other outside ...

Here's another, fabrics sold by FQs, but order 4 for a continuous yard and states discounts available for fabric bought by the yard:

Or what about starting with a clothkits dress?

How about making this? (I want a little girl to make this for!)

Was trying to find a link to a blog where there was a pattern for making pretty dress from a mans shirt. They were fab - but I can't find it now :(

Aha, the powers of google! Here it is:

Snowy you are a wonder!!!! :D:D:D

This is the pattern im intending to buy - http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=3808

However i adore the clothkits - WOW some fab stuff there!

The fabric links are great too and both the OH & I are taken with this one here - http://www.creative-fabrics.co.uk/fabric-by-theme/childrens-quilt-fabric/colourful-bugs-tossed-on-white-fabric/prod_125.html

I must start basic - VERY basic, as ive only ever made cushions before. I wouldnt mind but ive had a sewing machine for years and it does almost everything except make the tea! Its part computerised and sews ducks, apples etc

Im now determined to put it to good use.

EEK!!! :anxious:

my mum used to make all mine when I was little as well, I think it must be so rewarding to do that, and also they dont end up going round looking like all the other children's clothes.

I cant wait to see the finished piece(s) :D

Thankyou for asking the question Emma. I logged on to ask the same as I am after some pretty fabric to have a go at making one of these

I thought it would make a nice present for my MIL who does like a nice cup of tea.

Also thought I would use the same idea to make one with chickens on too :D

Some of the fabric sites suggested have some lovley fabrics. I like the 'gone to earth' site.

I went a little wild and bought quite a few pieces of fabric which i'll photograph tomorrow and pop on here. :D

As well as her dress im going to attempt to make her a car seat cover - without a pattern to follow!

Her current car seat is great but the material is a little rough and she doesnt half like scratching her legs on it and this just makes her eczema worse so a new cover she must have.

Any ideas about how to go about it would be very welcome indeed!!!

I have bought some elastic as i think i might need it but thats as far as ive got with the thinking stage!:oops:

I think i got it from fabric inspirations - but im not 100% sure. :?

I did buy about 7 pieces of material from various places so im not quite sure what i bought from where. Most of the links to them are at the beginning of this thread and very useful they were too :D

In fact youve just reminded me i need to look for some material with poppies on as i bought the most gorgeous buttons yesterday and now need to make a dress to go with them!
